I believe it very common in London..Went to a bar in a large hotel and my phone just wouldnt work nor a friends who was on a different supplier,orange.

A guy has recently been prosecuted for selling illegal mobile phone jammers to hotels, etc, so that punters are forced to use the costly hotel telephones.

Maybe that's the case?

Solution: Go outside the main door (until you get reception) in your worst looking clothes and make your call whilst smoking, spitting and effing and blinding as much as you can - growl at other guests and then return Who wants an image like that at the front of their hotel

Hello

As mentioned above, most devices that send out the relevant signals to block a mobile phone are illegal. You could ask to speak to the manager and scare him a little, I always found "Is it company policy to install illegal devices?" always gets the conversation going.
