...for doing 72 in a 30
Presumably I'm going to be in a lot of trouble over this.
...deservedly so perhaps, but, as my first driving offence in 25 years!!
What's the best/worst that I can expect,come 'judgement day'.
Any of you guys got any advice/experiences of what to do next exactly?
Jon

72 in a 30 will mean an appearence in court, that will not be dealt with by the means of a fixed penalty.
As for the penalty, it is hard to say, a court summons on any speeding offence can have a maximum penalty of :-
£1000 Fine
Points
Ban
Compulsary Re-test

Hello
I would imagine that you would get a ban for that.
I would certainly recommend a lawyer and a letter from your employer saying how vital you car is for your continued employment.
Steve.

Cheers guys
Unfortunately my job does depend upon driving,I commute between Southampton and Antwerp, weekly!!
The alledged offence took place on a familiar stretch of road, local to me.
Where I've overtaken 3 or 4 cars on a dual carriageway,in broad daylight.......with no houses anywhere near vicinity!!!

Good luck with it. I don't think there should be any speed limits on the roads at all personally. I know some people will think that's a strange point of view, but I think it's realistic.

did you hear of the bikers who got caught doing 147 and 156 on a dual carriageway near brackley. both marginally double the limit. they gor 28 days chokey.
mind you get pissed (twice the limit) and do 135 in a porsche and get community service. ok as long as you play in the premiership.

Morning guys
So any suggestions of what I should do now?
Buy a suit,obviously...
Should I get a Solicitor?
I've written to the prosecuting Officer asking for the photographs/video evidence.
but, basically all I've done is blatted past a few cars safely, without causing any inconvenience or danger to any other roaduser at all at that time, before slowing down to the correct speed limit.
And don't forget, this is my first offence of any kind for 25 years!!
Surely that will be taken into account

Jon,
If I were you, I would deffinatly be speaking to a laywer who specialises in traffic law.
However I would still expect that you will recieve quiet a heavy fine and a ban. The reason being that the road was a 30 MPH limit, regardless of the road being a dual carriage way. That is the limit that has been set for that road, so there must be a reason for the limit on the road? Schools Nearby? etc...
The fact that it was your first offence in 25 years probably will not make that much difference, all that means is it is the first time that you have been caught in 25 years.

Hi Elmer,
That ban that I mentioned on the RB5 forum was for 67 in 30. 21day ban and £100 fine + costs. For the record this was almost 5 years ago.
I didn't bother hiring a solicitor and just turned up in my best suit and ate humble pie like it was going out of fashion.
Good luck,
Phil

I know this couln't get any worse. However, I think you'll find that magistrates courts can fine you up to 5,000
Prepare yourself for a ban. As mentioned here take some good and honest mitigating circumstances to court with you. I.e Loss of job/business, only driver in your household, sick relatives,etc,etc...
If it's a 'hanging court' don't expect much sympathy. However, some magistrates are human (well nearly!!!)
Good luck

Allegedly stating that you will lose your job if you lose your licence etc, doesnt have any effect
unless other people will lose their job too as a result of your speeding
When I went to court (16 years ago) I explained that I would lose my job (even had a letter stating this from the director) all they did was to turn round and say 'so you were expecting a ban then' and I said yes and they said 'ok your banned for 6 months'
Doesnt matter how wide the road was or how clear it was, like Ian said, the limit must be there for a reason, maybe there are some houses on that road, or a school, or a shop, or chippy etc
Get a damn good solictor to keep the ban/fine to a minimum, and good luck

Unlikely that your fine will exceed £1000.
Half-wit footballer Seth Johnson was recently fined £1500 for racing a mini cooper, at 135mph, whilst drunk. Your case is not too good, but certainly not as bad as that plonker.
