It was me that recommended the radio city apartments. They were absolutely ideal. The people we went with are going back in november with their parents on their first trip abroad (!).

I stayed in a Best Western in Jersey - travelled the 5 miles into NY as necessary.
As per tiggs ..... at the end of the day it's a big city. Nothing more. I got bored after 2 days.
Sorry if that sounds negative mate
Well worth seeing but far from the hype IMHO

The mind literally boggles! There is more to do in NYC, IMHO the most amazing metropolis on earth, than almost any other city in the world.
Mind you I have friends there so I guess it's a bit different when you are staying with natives in their homes. I reckon if you're bored of NYC then you are tired of life- to use a cliche.

5 nights is about right IMO. Thursday-Tuesday we did.
You are a bit blitzed thursday afternoon when you get there, so 4 full days and fly back Tuesday morning so you are in reasonable shape to go back to work on wednesday.

4 days is about right to see most of the sights.
I sometimes stay at the SAS Raddisson as it's normally fairly cheap.
As with most cities - you put the effort in to enjoy it and you will

Also New York is fantastic! Even if you run out of things in the city theres loads to do just a few miles out of it in Connecticuit And New Jersey! I love it!
You must see Lion King at broadway sounds like a kids thing (the g/f got me to go) but its amazing!
Beware BA flights are v. uncomfortable personally think Continental are better even if its into Newark.

Roosevelt Hotel on Madison Avenue (6th Ave). Great hotel, not too expensive and close to Empire State, Times Sq, Central Park etc.
We stayed there in March and I vas very impressed. Also it looks out ont Grand central Station and the Crysler Building.
Mail me if you want any more info.

Got to agree with NACRO & GTI on this one.
NYC is my favourite destination, went there for the 4th time in January and still find loads to do.
I stayed at the Franklyn on E87 Street which is really close to Central Park and two blocks from the Guggenheim Museum. Close to the Lexington Subway on E86 Street. Cheap but nice hotel, and you get fruit/croissants/muffins plus coffee in the morning thrown in.
It is a little way from Times Square etc, but the Subway is quick, easy and cheap. I mainly walked it.
Hope this helps

I recently visted in Manhattan and stayed as a guest in a members club but there was a hotel right opposite called The Algonquin. The location is perfect - a few hundred meters one way from Times Sq/Theatre district and a few humdred meters from 5th Avenue the other way. I kept walking past it and thought it looked nice so I called in and it looked great inside - I would consider staying here if I went back. Checked the price on Expedia / Travelocity a while back and it looked good value. Address is 44th Street between Fifth and Sixth Avenues.

just to clarify...i've been more than once! i dont mean after 3-4 days there is nothing left to see, i mean that its not a holiday like others where you can chill out for a day. NY is a drain, especially on your first trip...in fact, if it is your first trip and you try to see as much as poss you will be nackered after 4 days.

Love the pics of the snow......I've only ever been in summer so I've only ever experienced the humidity and heat.
As for the place being draining, I have to agree that you need LOTS of energy to get the most out of a trip there.
