Does anyone on here own a Quad Bike ?
#1
Just wondered what you have/have had ? What sort of use do you get out of it ? Has there ever been a ATV Scoobynet meet ?
I'm after one myself, either farm type such as Honda Foreman, or something completely different, like a Yamaha Banshee (If anyone knows of any second hand one's going...)
Are there any forums based in the UK for ATVing ? Can't seem to find any
(Mods is there any chance you could leave this thread here as I didn't get much response on quads in Bikers ?)

Not wanting to put you off them or anything....
Late last year, a mate bought a 350 Banshee. Quite quick, and good fun... During winter months, he got pipes, K+N's etc, and it did get quicker. But with the muddy weather, traction was a problem, but it was good fun, and very very hard to hang onto.
Then came the dry weather, adn it became very fast, once it was able to get grip, even harder to hang onto.
Then, I fell off, after hiting a small jump. I was a crap rider anyway, but came off lucky, with a dislocated knee.
Then 2 weeks later, mate came off it, and crushed L1+L2 vertebrae in his back, ( one of which was a past injury ) He is very very lucky not to be paralised, but is still in pain some 6 months later.
Basically, if you do want one, dont overlook as much safety equipment as you can get. They are very hard to ride, you need to be fit, and can bite if you make a mistake.
He modified his to twist grip, as his thumb ( along with most other bones in his body ) are wrecked from past motorbike injuries. I would not reccomend the twist grip, and I do partly blame it for both accidents. Natural motion is to grap the grip to hold on, which usually gives more throttle. The thumb lever throttle they come with as std is much safer, and IMO easier to use.

Thanks for that info stevieturbo - sorry to here the news about the Banshee.
It sort of backs up my brother's story - he goes out in a group that has farm type quad bikes, i.e 4 x 4 that will go anywhere. I suppose if I got a Banshee I wouldn't be able to go in half the places they go. Which defeats the point in going out with them
Honda Foreman for me I think !
PG you didn't find those links did ya mate ?
Surely there must be more Scoobynet owners with quads ?

I saw a Honda Quad bike on an 03 plate last week on the road in my town. The chap riding it had a fire service jacket on but I don'tr know if its a fire service vehicle. It looked like a 250 4 stroke single, not a racer.

Sorry for the thread hi-jack, quick question for PG. I assume you are in the Scottish Fire brigade, if you are, would it be ok for me to e-mail you with a couple of questions re. recruitment?
Any help would be much appreciated

I've been thinking of the cheaper RAM quads for the road.
Looks like a laugh, i'm hoping you can attach a towbar so I can tow a jetski across the beach, not sure the RAM quads are up to that tho, anyone tried anything similar?
