A similar thread in the non-scooby related area reminded me of a little fun I had a couple of months ago with the stock market.

This was all virtual, and I used http://www.thisismoney.co.uk virtual portfolio. I noticed a couple of financial problems for companys such as British energy and Telewest Broadband, I waited for them to sink as low as I thpught they could go (BE ~4p TWB~1p) and then put £100 in each, and I decided to pull out when British Energy hit £500 and Telewest £250 and then wished I had invested real money!

So has anyone else fancied playing the Stock market, but not had the courage? Or has anyone played the virtual Stock market, so to speak?

Just checked to see how much my original £100 in each would be worth.

BE £88.88
TWB £93

My advise don't be to greedy and hang in to long

A mate of mines old man was an engineer and gave it up to day trade. He's now 50-odd, retired with a 911 covertable, an XK8, a house that's worth near on a £1m a house in Monaco, and some seriously fancy stuff in the house including 'original' paintings (art means nothing to me but my lass at the time said they were worth LOADS!) He's done pretty well for himself

Ive played the Stock Market small time for the last 10 years. Its a very big gamble but IMO well worth it. Ive payed off my mortgage, got an 18mth old Sti and plenty in my latest portfolio. All I can say is never gamble unless you can accept losing it which can obviously happen.

Chip.

I can't see why anyone would want to deal with real stocks & shares now....spread bet instead!!

It is tax free and leveraged - and with stop losses, you can limit your losses, but potential of unlimited gains....

..and you can short too! So can make money in falling AND rising markets....

See my other thread......

I've made more too - shorting and going long....

I reckon it's building up for a fall though - techs have risen too quickly.
I'll be shorting as soon as it looks like it is going to fall.

DJI currently testing support at 9360 as we speak. If it falls below expect a big sell off before the weekend but i'm expecting it to hold and have just gone long on the S&P at 995 at $50 a point with a stop loss of 985. Do not buy shares get yourself a CFD account with someone like City Index, in fact they'll let you dummy trade before risking your hard earned. Learn charts so you can work out exit and entry points and be prepared for the market to take every penny off you if you don't put in the ground work and are simply guessing/gamling.

Don't short the Nasdaq above 1255 and is probably going to continue up after Intels news tonight.

Be lucky.
