Tried it once when I was 17, bought the kit from Boots.

Yuk, never again. It was supposed to be lager but it was cloudy and tasted like cider. I drank about half a pint before i gave up. A mate drank 2 litres, was absolutely steaming for about half an hour then puked.

revolting stuff.... it'll get you pissed, though in the most unpleasant way imaginable. Think 'gut rot'

Oh, and you *will* regret it when you experience the hangover <read poisoning> next day.

Apart from that, go for it.

I used to brew my own from aged 13...

Was very successful, the secret was to sterilise everything first or else you brewed vinegar!

Lager, bitter, stout, red wine and white wine all went down well.

Only stopped when I was legally able to buy my own...

Hello

Also remember not to brew in a metal container.

I was in Saudi Arabia when half of the English population there came down with blood poisoning!

I seem to recall it far easier to get the oldest looking one of us to buy a 2l bottle of merrydown cider from the offy

Ah, those carefree days when all we had to worry abouyt was who was going out with who and who had said what about somebody else!
