Some good Aussie rock/alternative bands....
#1
Since being over here, I have heard the usual.....Silverchair mainly who are absolutely massive.
My brother arrived 7 weeks ago and we have been scouring the shelves for new or unheard of music for him to take back to the UK. Some of these will have made a wee entrance into the UK.....I never really took notice of what was hot or not either way.
Here is a list...
Powderfinger (have appeared at a couple of UK festivals) - early albums not much to shout about, but the recent one Vulture Street is a fine line of music. "A gentle side of Pearl Jam, but with a willingness to rock" my bro says.
New single "(Baby I've got you) On My Mind" is a top rocking tune.
Pacifier - recommended album to listen to is the self titled Pacifier. A polished type of grunge sound is my bro's expert opinion.
Killing Heidi - girl fronted band - can't remember the album name, but has an indy pop sound to them. Easy listening and one for the road.
Something for Kate - album is Echolalia, new album due in August will be good apparently. Not too keen on them myself, but my bro likes them and says they are like "Pearl Jam covering Travis" and that they are difficult listening - takes a bit to get into htem - I still haven't.
The Androids - album entitles Androids, they are a punk rock outfit everyone will probably have heard the single "Do it with Madonna", but they aren't all cheesey anthems, so don't give up on them if you are sick of this tune!!!!
That's it so far, we are still out and hunting. Picked up loads of Limited edition Australian Tour albums of other bands such as Garbage, Cradle of Filth, Everclear etc.
So for those of you who are seeking alternative listening, try some of these for a change and see if they make a good enough impression to become part of your collection.

Pacifier - used to be called Shihad before recent 'events' made them fear it would harm their attempts to break America
Saw them at the Big Day Out in Auckland - excellent stuff
If you like 'em, check out the Shihad stuff too.
Also, 28 Days are a cool Aussie band if you like your punky metal party crossover type stuff.

Will check out the Shihad stuff - thanks for the tip.
Have heard of 28 days, lots of appearances on MTV lately, they're earlier stuff was better though and more punky.
"Rip It Up" - class choonage.

If you seriously want some, I know quite a few second hand record stores where I have made a couple of bargain purchases - I shall get them to look out on th databases and call me if anything turns up.

Try Diesel (Mark Lizotte), albums by either Diesel, Mark Lizotte or Johnny Diesel and the Injectors!!!
He was playing at the Casino in Adelaide last Friday night in acoustic mode i.e him, his guitar and not much else - and it was a fantastic night - only about 200/250 people there and he rocked the place......the cheap champagne was a bonus
The Killing Heidi album is called Reflector - I got that when I was in Oz in 2000 - its a belter - not sure if you can get it over here.
Oh and popular in Oz also is Fuel (an American band) Shimmer is my favourite track.
