Long story - but was once staying at the same hotel as Paul Darrow. We sat by the fire drinking far too much wine and having a real laugh - he was a thoroughly nice bloke!! (He was doing some stuff on Emmerdale at the time )
I didn't even realise who he was till half way throuugh the evening when I fixed him with a wobbly dunken gaze and declared:
"I know who you are now - you were horrid!"
Great if it comes back - but I bet they upgrade the scenery.... They apparently had to do just about all their own stunts - which apparently led to some very near misses!

Its on one of the satellite channels at the moment (the original).
Its really not as good as you might remember - and why they kept finding the same quarry on every planet is beyond me

I met the guy out of Blake's 7 at a Sci Fi fair at the NEC. He was sitting waiting for someone to talk to him, and he caught me looking at him. So he says:
"I bet you don't remember me do you?"
"Yes I do - you were in Blake's 7" I replied.
"Ah I'm surprised you're old enough - did you like it?"
"No", I said, laughing "Too confusing!"
Fair play to him - he laughed too, and just said "Well at least you're honest!"

Agree 100% with Witchfinder, it is no just the (not so) special effects.
Great show and ahead of it's time, recon it was first shown in 1978, saw it first time around and was hooked.

Avon: "I'm not expendible, I'm not stupid, and I'm not going!"
Vila: "I've got this shocking pain right behind the eyes."
Avon: "Have you considered amputation?"
Blake: "Does it support intelligent life?"
Avon: "Does the Liberator?"
Avon: "Shut up Tarrent"
Tarrnet: "Did you says something Avo..."
Avon: "Yes, I said shut up, I apologise for not realising you are deaf."
Avon: "Tarrant, I assume you have no tedious scruples about cheating and lying?"
Tarrant: "None at all."
Avon: "Oh good."

Avon was my fave character, had the best lines, outfits and gave the evilest looks. Paul Darrow did a great job in this role and ‘made’ Blakes 7 for me.

He proved that the 'title' character doesn't have to be in the series to make the series. Although it was "Blakes" 7, Avon was, for most of the first 2-3 series, the main or second-to-main characters, and then came into his own once Blake left. Shame the Scorpion was cr@p compared to the Liberator.

If youre really sad like me, you can get up and watch it before Dr Who on UK Gold at about 6 o clock,
I got up a few times to watch the Doctor and his sexy assistant, and caught the tail end of Blakes Seven a few times.

Now you mention it, I think it was the Scorpio. It still looked like a polished turd next to the Liberator.
And plus, the series was not about the Liberator, it was a bout the crew fighting the injustice of the evil almost-communist 'federation' (oh, how Roddenberry must have got a kick out of that one).
A mate lent me the whole series 6 years ago, and I sat and watched the whole lot in a week - pure nostalgia.
ps. don't forget to look at my Battlestar Galactica topic

Saw your BG topic, i quite enjoyed it first time around but found it hard going, very American and always a happy ending. Look forward to a 'new look' version mind. FYI a mates at schools cousin was the little boy with the robot dog (Boxy), cannot remember the name of the kid though, he came over one year on holiday in about '79 on holiday which was cool.
Agreed B7 was not just about the ship and certainly not the SFX It had great characters and script, was well directed and is top Si-Fi drama
