"Motoring organisations condemned the suggestion, with the RAC saying it was "unlikely to be welcomed by motorists"".
Bit of a bl**dy understatement that is!!! What about the perpetrators compensating the victims. Hell, what a novel idea ......

There was an article in the times as well - this said that in addition to the £35 on fixed penalty charges, there is going to be some kind of extra tax on home insurance; get this, *to help the victims of crime*. So you pay an insurance company in case you get burgled, and also you pay the govt in case, err, you get burgled. More mindless interference if you ask me.

It quoted Mr Blunkett - in a letter to Deputy Prime Minister John Prescott - as saying: "The proposals set out here would send out a clear message of placing the victim at the heart of the criminal justice system."

Correct me if i am wrong, but wasn't the original fixed penalty notice (for speeding) only GBP35, but as part of the hypothecation scheme (letting police forces keep the money), they added a further GBP25 "admin fee".
So now the plan is that for someone who causes no harm whatsoever to pay a fine, plus the processing fee for the punishment, plus a contibution for the (non-existent) victim??
What next, VAT on top of the fine, plus charges, plus retribution
Hey, maybe we should re-pay for the road that we drove on (again, and have alrady paid for many times before).
Arrrrrggghhhhhh

Riiight, so last year, when my car was parked in my designated space outside my house and kids set fire to the car next to it, in broad daylight, causing over £2000 of damage to my car alone, where was my compensation?
You guessed it, the costs were covered by my insurance and as there was nobody to claim from I lost 2 years NCD.
Were the police interested? Nope. In fact, did the police even bother to turn up? Yes, eventually, several days later, after numerous 'phone calls and after my car had been removed to the local repair centre. Then all they did was to tramp large, greasy, ash covered footprints into a cream carpet.
It'd be all well and good to collect money for the victims of crime, if the victims of crime ever bloody got it!
This makes me so mad!
