Unhappy

I live in a nice quiet village in Buckinghamshire but the peace is increasingly being shattered by yobs on motorbikes using the stretch of road passing the village for racing practice.
Now this isn’t kids it’s middle aged blokes on big bikes who really should know better.
I don’t really know what to do about it?
I called the local plod but they don’t have enough people,
I wanted to go and talk to the bikers, but I don’t want any trouble.
Ultimately I can start pushing the council to put in yet more traffic calming measures but that’s a long-term solution.
By the end of Sunday afternoon I was VERY tempted to just go and tip a couple of gallons of diesel on the road, but my common sense overruled my anger.
Any suggestions?

No advise, but if it's any consolation my village has a similar problem, in the last three years it's got much worse.
We also get the same from cars but they are not as noisy.

The born again biker mob start past mine (small village - straight road) about 7.00 am on a sunday - its far noisier than on a weekday.

Plod do occasionally pitch up with speed guns - but usually well into the day and miss the ones out nice and early who really abuse the speed limit.

Thumbs down

Why don't you just get over it Leave them to it, you wouldn't want them to complain about something you do would you?

Go and have a friendly chat and let them know that some of the other residents are p*ssed off with them and are intending to get the police down to radar them. As long as you do it in the right way ie you are on their side and ask them lots of questions about their nice bikes first you may find that they slow down a bit.

Not all bikers are aggressive to55ers.

Question

Bob you're right of course, but do you not think the noise and speed is antisocial?

No I don't to be honest OK it's a bit of an inconvienence(SP?) but it's not the end of the world, there's more important stuff to worry about. The woman over the road complains bitterly about folk turning in the yard next her house, the ice cream man's tunes and noise in general but then of an evening she has her radio on at full tilt

I spose that's just my opinion...you're entitled to your own too!

Question

I guess my point is that all those thing sound annoying, but not dangerous.
These guys are doing wheelie practice and 80/90 mph passes in a 30 zone.
The bikes sound fantastic, but the behaviour is pure 'track day' not for the road in a built up area on a Sunday afternoon?
Don't you think?

Question

If someone posted that they'd done 90 mph through a village in their scoob, all hell would break loose. Is there some kind of different standard for bikes?

Being a bit of a biker myself I have to say that this is nothing but wrong.

If these guys are doing what you say in a built up area then they should know better.

I wouldn't bother speaking to them because although not all bikers are aggressive trouble makers there are some that are and even if they're not they will just think you're an interfering busy body and just ignore you.

If it was me and if you're being truthfull about the situation then I'd just call the police.

I know it doesn't sound very good but why should they be allowed to get away with it?

Question

Had thought I could video them and pass the tape to the police, but I'm concerned they'd see this as antagonistic and it would make things worse.

Not if you film like you're enjoying it
Besides I do have to agree with regency on this one. I dont have a problem with people giving it the full moo on their bikes or in their cars, but if you want to do that sort of thing then you go to a deserted industrial estate at 3am, not past peoples houses at 7am on a sunday.

Following on from the video/chatting to them idea. If you talk to them in the right way you may even get some good video of them doing wheelies, burnouts etc. Get their number plates on there and the police would have all the evidence they need.
I don't want to get other bikers into trouble but it sounds like these guys are taking the p1ss.

Ah right, if you'd of put 80/90 mph wheelies in a 30 zone, in your first post.....

Yeah, that's just daft, shop 'em!

Nick a "Danger spilt diesel" type of sign from somewhere. Leave that out at the weekends.

find a little old lady who lives near by. You need one with no real savings. Cannot afford to heat her house in the winter. Been ripped off by dodgy builders/salesmen etc. wont be hard!!

pay her £5.00 a weekend to keep crossing the road. Make sure she is ....she might try to skive off.

This might work.

Not having a speed gun i dont actually know exactly how quick they are going past my house. But full throttle from a slow tight corner for 500 hundred yards on a bike ? not 30 i'm sure.

Given its a quiet road normally, being woken at 7.00 am by 4 bikes on full throttle on a sunday gets bloody annoying. The 30 mph finishes about half a mile further on, but apparently thats too much to wait for :rolleye:. I'm no saint and will normally be doing 40ish through the village. but I dont doo full throttle acceleration tests @ 7 am .

We get similar things on a Sunday morning and afternoon, but its not so bad as its on a 60mph main road out in the countryside, but in a 30 is just ridiculous.
