Well most of you know i got stopped last week because of my small number plate. I ordered a new one (standard size one) and it came this week. Was going to put it on tomorrow ready for southend.

BUT I just got stopped again!!! lmao

Its not my week.

Had the small number plate on for 2 weeks. Got stopped within the first week so was going to changing it, and then get stopped just before i change it.

The end result is a £30 fine and ive got to change it otherwise apparently it adds up to a £1000 fine etc.

I got all my DVLA documents out to say you can have small number plates on imports. These guys knew the law. You can have smaller number plates on imports such as Evos but on scoobys, there is a place to put the standard number plate so we CANT have small plates.

Generally they were good about it though.

The young copper was asking about the car and my insurance, but it was the older one who knew the law and was determined to teach me a lesson.

The annoying thing is i have the standard number plate to put on which i WAS going to do this weekend.

Also, my back one is standard size, has a border round it, slightly different font (but looks standard) with silver lining to the font. When looking at it, it just looks like a border round the plate. THis is illegal to. Apparently your not to change the font or border (i thought you could, as long as it wasnt that sh*t italics and you can read it).

They are clamping down on small number plates so beware

You dont wanna see the sixe of my new front one then

I got tugged for this a while ago now but did the same thing, wrote contesting my fine etc, got a letter back saying they are dropping all charges

I now carry that around as a big "**** you" to the police who have nothing better to do than be out catching real criminals

I think the Cops are less bothered in some areas. I have an illegal plate on my transit, have been stopped umpteen times as a suspected Pikey and caught on Gatso twice...but nothing ever said about my plates.
I am going to squeeze the 3 digits and 4 letters on my Scoob plate together to make it about 3" less long.

I had better work out a way of attaching my front number plate by sat then

Yeah you did IanW. THats why i ordered a new front plate to put on!

Its just annoying i got stopped and fined considering i was putting the plate on this weekend. I thought i would have thought 14 days or maybe 21 days to change it.

Has only been about 10! lol

I do hope SIWRX is reading this.

There is space on an Impreza for a full size number plate full stop.

Going on about fmic is not going to wash as they left the factory with a tmic.

Shít about the fine though Money.

Exactly!

The regulations state:-

Certain imported vehicles may be permitted to display number plates with smaller characters if:

The vehicle does not have European Community Whole Vehicle Type Approval

AND

The vehicle's construction/design cannot accomodate standard size number plates

However as the Impreza has type approval it is not applicable.

As far as I was aware, the regs regarding plates on imports is more relevant to the rear plate. My import can't take a standard size UK rectangular plate and the standard size letters and numbers are too big for the square-ish plate that fits, so smaller letters and numbers are acceptable. I guess the same would apply to front plates if there's no space for the UK-spec plate.

H7 but AFAIK the std UK plate will fit in the bumper though?

I have not paid much attention to the rear bumpers of imports, but I remember Little Miss WRX's WRX had a normal rear plate.

H7- You're saying you have no room for a full size plate in between the bumper indents?
