Just got my Kyosho Taipan out for the first time in ages. Having problems with the fuel flow. Got the tank with fuel pipe leading to a fuel filter with another pipe leading to the engine. When I try priming the fuel it gets to filter then stops. If I then disconnect the end of the other pipe (i.e. the one that connects to the engine) and prime the fuel flows fine and squirts out the end. So it seems it might be a pressure issue. Have blown all bubbles out of the line. Any ideas as it was working yesterday.

Might just sod it and buy a new tank and pipes as the seal on the primer plunger keeps moving up.

Simon.

Haven't done this for a while but have you tried putting your finger over the carb and turning the engine over slowly to suck the fuel up?

paulpalmer is right, dont bother plunging, stick your thumb over the exhaust when you start it, you'll see the fuel get sucked up the pipe and pushed into the carb.

once its reached the carb, give it two or three more pulls with thumb on pipe, then it should fire up after another couple of pulls without thumb.

also check the glowplug isnt fouled up.

good luck

Cool

I used to go through glowplugs regularly I never tried finger over the exhaust but it used to work over the carb and I used to use the same trick to pump the fuel up on my kart (but hand over )

Ok will give it a whirl. Fairly sure the glow plug is fine. Cleaned where it sits with a cotton bud as it was a bit gunky. Have checked it glows red by testing it out of the engine and all looks good.

Cheers fellas,
Simon.

Thumbs up

I found changing the seal on the plunger sorted this out for me. I also use the finger on exhaust to start her up.

paul, the reason i say finger on the exhaust is you really should not run these cars without filters, i've seen loads of damaged engines from this, basically one small grain of sand can dent the ***k out of the top of the piston in a very small time scale.

remember these little babies push out in excess of 25,000 rpm, so the piston is going up and down, just as many times (scarey!!)

PS if i had a pound for everytime a) my car wouldn't start, b) i snapped the pullstart, c) i hit a kerb, d)cut my knuckles up on the exhaust, e) burned myself, f)spilt fuel all over the hot car....etc... i'd be retiring now!!!

all the best

Well the seal on the old plunger broke and I had this spare tank with all the bits the guy I bought it off gave me. It works but every now and then the seal comes off the end of the plunger and you have to poke it back on with a small screwdriver. Really poor design to be honest. Gonna pop down Hobby Stores over the weekend and get some new fuel lines, filter, tank (with decent plunger) and some fuel as mine is well old.

I used to pull the filter off, prime it 'til I saw fuel, start it, refit the filter (pushed on) and off you go. I gave up in the end and swapped it for a good spec electric car that I just charge up and use now You don't get the noise but you don't get the hassle. I still own a front wheel drive peugeot 306 nitro with 2 speed transmission but I haven't used it for years

Sorted her out after running a whole tank of fuel and working out the correct fuel mixture as its got an uprated exhaust. Is idling perfectly now. Off to Tesco car park on sunday night to give her a blat as the suspension is so low that it sits about 4mm off the ground so bumpy tarmac is a no go unless I wanna see sparks fly

As well as the finger over the exhaust, if you drop a touch of nitro into the carb (open throttle) that will help start the puppy up every time. Works for me anyway.

God damn it the pull starter is knackered now. It was looking a bit old but now the chord wont go back in. Anyone know anywhere online that sells this sort of stuff as Im having no joy?

Thanks,
Simon.
