What fuel for an outboard??
#1
AAAAAArrrrrrrrrrggggggghhhhhhh Jimlad!!!!!!
Having restored a small boat its time to see if it floats. I got a seond hand Mariner M4 for chrimbo but aren't sure what fuel to use. I seem to remember being told 50/1. Would that be 50 parts UL to 1 part oil(what sort??)
Cheers

Yep, normal unleaded (95 RON) and you need to use a 2-stroke oil for PREMIX ONLY.
There are two types of two-stroke oil: injector (for use with seperate oil injection systems) and premix.
A good scooter premix oil will work nicely, as they are designed for motors which run at fairly constant rpm. Probably about £4 a litre.
I would check the premix ratio with the engine mfctr, as it can vary a lot between engine types -- anywhere between 32-1 and 100-1!
32-1 is a quarter of a pint of oil mixed into a gallon of fuel, 50-1 is about 95ml oil per gallon fuel.

Normally says on the engine somewhere / cap. Most are 50:1, old seagull engines - 10:1 (ouch!). Any old 2 stroke oil as the man said - motorbike's fine, don't buy it at a chandler, if you own a boat you must be rich, so....

All that advice is good, but check to see what the ratio is for your engine. Sometimes they have oil injection engines with a separate oil tank on the engine which automatically feeds oil into the fuel.

Notice you think you will be putting normal UL fuel in. This is not necessarily the case. There are a number of older two stroke outboards that run on LRP only. Worth checking with the manufacturer, just like the oil requirement.
