Good coverage on ITV this afternoon with the man Phil Liggett.
Drama yesterday with Millar and his chain, then a major crash today within the last km.
Excellent

If you watch the crash again watch for the guy in the orange top on the right of the pic. You see the bike bob up and down twice...this was him running over another guys knee
looked nasty !

That crash brought a whole new meaning to the expression 'pile up' Did you notice the huge black guy that climbed the barrier to try and rescue a rider getting repeatedly 'squished'? Good on him.

good coverage every night at 7pm on ITV2 I think - excellent 1 hour on the opening stage last night - how on earth do they do it?
I love watching it just for the tactics .... watching teams working to get their riders back into the pack etc

It's been great so far and it comes through my home department next week- I'll be out there with my air horn giving some encouragement to the British riders.

One of the bikes had snapped in two
I'm surprised they don't crash more often, you have to respect those guys, worlds toughest sporting competition IMO

I have been following the Tour since 1985 and love it. It could be the reason I race bikes now (and have done for 15 years).
This years holiday has be partly planned around me and my bike doing the major climbs in the Alps.
I know cycling has its problems but it is still a great sport and the Tour is the very pinnacle!

I thought the same about Stephen Roche - piling on the lbs a bit!
Every sport has it's problems but cycling now probably has some of the toughest drug controls ever seen. Don't dwell on it's past problems but enjoy the spectacle and marvel and the fitness/skill involved.
I recommend everyone read Lance Armstrong's 'It's not about the bike' - a true testament to human spirit overcoming adversity if ever there was one.
