Going on hols in a few weeks and wondering when to get some Euros. See its gone up in the last few days. Is this rise likely to continue or would you buy now.

now is a pretty good time to change, it has gone up 5 cents since last week to 1.44/£, it will go down again if the bank cuts its rate as it says it will, your best bet though is, if you have "cirus" on your bank card,(most cash machines in europe support this) is to only take enough to get you by the first day or so and then withdraw straight from the machines, you will get the day rate at the time with no comission! can save you £40/50 on your exchanges.
hope this helps

Dave:
Is that true? I spent a long while discussing this with my bank (NatWest) and decided that they actually charge about 2.5% + a fixed fee per transaction. You don't "see" the fee, they just give you a lower exchange rate for that day.

steve,
ive used it in norway, belgium, spain, france and germany and italy, and without question it has always saved me money, you take out say 200 euros, thousands of other transactions are taking place at same time, bank then exchanges them at an agreed rate(the one you get on teletext) with a uk bank ,probably a couple of millions worth ,and hey presto they same rate appears on your statment, if they are charging it is a fraction of a percent, not the banks usual rate of £3.00 comission and a rate of 8/9 eurocents behind the spot rate
natwest have no business trying to talk you out of it!!

dave
p.s i exchange euros in my business daily, and i get the same rate as teletext plus or minus half a cent. if i went down to thomas cook i would have gone bust long ago!!
