Question

For some time now I have had an unpleasant smell in my loft. I have never been able to track the source, I just assumed it was a dead bird somewhere or something. As the smell has never got into the house I haver never worried too much about it. However I am now selling the house and am worried its going to come up on the survey.

Does anyone have any good ideas about how I could go about neutralising it?

Thanks

Easy - Take the dead bird out

Seriously - don't think smells are covered on a survey, more a structural inspection rather than the state of the property.
Give it a blast of air freshener b4 the inspection and don't worry when showing folk round as It's unlikley you'll be asked to go in the loft (unless converted).

If I could find the source I would remove it

The house is sold so not worried about viewings. The survey is the same as the one I am having and one of the things they specifically report on is bad smells.

I think an air freshener in the loft might be a bit suspicious hence trying to neutralise it.

Thanks

Drop your guts just as he sticks his head through the loft opening appologise and blame it on last nights curry !

Alternative is to nip down to your local vets and ask for the stuff that rids the house of pet smells - think that neutralises smells rather than covering them.

it may down to damp you know when 'areas' get damp/moist they can smell

get a dehumidifier and try that it may do the trick

One of the three black plastic bags may have split, just re-bag the parts,no need to un-bag them just put the originals inside a couple of new ones.

Instead of tieing the top of the bags use cable ties, and wrap carpet tape around the bag, from top to bottom, and around the middle.

PS If your selling the house I would get rid of the bags before you leave!

LOL at Yoza - just needed to add - Then I hear the best thing to do is feed it to pigs of course you need to starve them for a couple of days then the sight of a chopped up body will look like curry to a **** head.(or summot like that)

Funnily enough about 3 months ago I went up into our loft and it stank! - Like bad eggs!

Went up a agin a few weeks later - still real bad.

I checked all the tanks, and lagging, lifted all the insulation, checked the eaves etc and could find NO cause of the really awful smell.

Went back up a few weeks ago - no smell. Fresh as a daisy.

explain that one..... (house approx 12 years old)
