A bit of a long shot this, but has anyone been to or know anything about Madagascar? Thinking about where to go on holiday and the girlfriend wants to see Lemurs in the wild!!!
Haven't been able to find much info on the net so far so any info appreciated.

Globe Trekker had a program about it the other night. A real mix of races, African, Asian, French etc. Diving looked good (though there were sharks in the Ocean!). Ian Wright (the presenter) stayed in an Island in the North on the later part of his trip and said it was a Tropical Island Paradise which is so far unspoiled. Globe Trekker sell books and dvds which may offer more info. They also have a website.
P.S. They also went Lemar spotting 'you need a guide'.

Cool place in a run down 3rd world sort of way. Only spent two days there on business, stayed at Hotel Colbert in Antananarivo, the capital, there's also a Hilton IIRC. The island the guys are talking about above is probably Nosy Be on the NW coast - where the rich hang out. Very poor country, French and Malagasy speaking, and huge - size of France and Switzerland together.

My Mum went there a few years ago. At the time there was political troubles so it might be worth investigating. She also spoke about the poverty there as well
Mind you its not as bad as when she went to Mongolia, where there had been an outbreak of the bubonic plague
Good luck,
Ed

Thanks fat boy and Ed. I know there was some trouble last year but I think it has settled down a bit now. I will look into Nosy Be and have made a note never to go to Mongolia
