Dont take this as gospel, but I believe that in Muslim society Pork is "dirty" (bit like the jews beleive) and placing it on a dead body means that the soul cant ascend. It blocks it or something.

Sorry but this thread has really got my goat!!!

A while back I was told by a muslim neighbour that I was `an English *****`.....the reason for this was I was hanging out the washing early one morning in my dressing gown in my OWN back garden.

So how come you can rant and rave about this bacon business and I am expected to keep quiet about a remark made to me because I am English.

Both are racially insulting and should be treat as such. If you'd have made a complaint to the police stressing that it caused a lot of harrassment, alarm and distress then something would have been done about the crime. Everyone should treat people as they find them no matter what their skin colour, ethnic background or religious beliefs

I can't help feeling that the perpetrator of this heinous crime is someone who is of the faith, maybe they got someone from another faith to actually handle the pork but it is (or was) a little known fact to none Muslims.And yes it does mean that the deceased will travel to the Muslim version of hell instead to heaven. Its an awful thing to do to someone and must be devastating to the family.I hope the guilty party is soon found.

Its more down to that age old stirrer of most troubles and unrest - religion !I'll stop myself there. As you quite rightly wrote, lets not get this turned into some sort of argument. Let us all think about the victim's relatives and how they must feel. One thing is for sure, who ever committed this crime will get paid back three fold. No doubts there.

The world is becoming full of very nasty people who have no shame and are not prepared to suppress their worst inclinations to evil behaviour. It is a real worry and I can only see it getting completely out of hand eventually.

Just for the record, Muslims do not believe that such an act would 'stop the soul ascending ' etc.........nothing will stop that happening. The deceased is judged on their own actions and intentions.....not by how someone desecrates their body.

But yes very very insulting and whoever did it is a very sick individual. Just leave dead people, of all faiths, to hopefully rest in peace.

Katana-not sure if you mean me,but just to clarify-Moses has explained to me in the past why Muslims feel the way they do about swine so I understand how insulting it is.My point was that this will just lead to another slanging match if fingers are ponted without any evidence as to who did it.
