Is anyone on here clued up about the new legislation, from what I've read I should be due to two weeks fully paid Paternity Leave in July

But this is a Labour Govt so I'm expecting a bit of stealth to creep in somewhere ??

Anyone else in the same boat??

Looking at the web site it states Statutory Paternity Pay is £20 per day for two weeks, unless im mistaken and I really would like to be, I can have two weeks off but at a wage of only £20 a day!!, now why would any earning father ditch his wages for £20 a day when you need every penny you have at a time like that??

Again they appear to be giving with one hand "here you go two weeks off work to bond as a family arent we a generous govt" and taking with the other "but you wont get your usual wages will £20 a day cover it?"

No it wont!! this whole thing seems like a gesture more than anything

youre not wrong it is 2 weeks at £20, check with your company as many now give a week or so fully paid and then you can take holiday / unpaid as well.

unfortunatly mine only gave 3 days paid and I used the rest of my holiday days so I could take a month off. It was great get as much time as you can it is well worth it.

My boss gave me two weeks of last month when my wife had our first child. He even payed me for it.

2 weeks is right.

Fully paid ain't necessarily so.

"Statutory" rights are either 90% of your wage for those two weeks, OR £100 a week using whichever figure is smaller

Some companies will implement a policy that's better than this, but they legally can't make it worse

That is the statutory minimum, yes...but remember a lot of companies (especially the larger ones) will offer you the two weeks at full pay now that it is a legal obligation (mine does)

My wife is just about to give birth, and I thought that it would be good to have two weeks off.

But, £20 a day is just ridiculous. Most of the people here will earn at least 5 times that. Who can afford to take the time off (apart from as holiday) if that is all you will get paid?

I thought that the government ould introduce something useful, like 90% pay even if it is just for a few days / one week.

Its my 2nd so I know the pitfalls and hormonal mood swings are coming my way, 8 years between kids, ive forgotten all about those bum gravy nappies and 03.00 feeds

Yeah its very good of the govt to set this up but to be honest even if i was on the minimum wage I'd still be worse off with the £20 per day, who were they aiming this at?? unless your wedged up and you can do without the money its just not financially viable to even the lowest paid in this country, a bit of a joke really. I'd be better off as an imigrant rather than someone who is prepared to work hard for their living these days, I know its been covered but it still pisses u off
