Thumbs up

In the BBC2 Deep Purple Rock Family Tree programme a few years ago, there was a great Whitesnake / Coverdale story.

Apparently David likes to do the rock'n'roll holler when he comes on stage: "HELLO CLEVELAND!!!!!" and so on.

Anyway, so says Mick Moody, they're playing in a place somewhere in the USA called Arnold. David struts to the mike and yells "HELLO ARNOLD!!!!"

All the Brits in the band fall on the floor and **** themselves ...

Not quite 'all the Brits' as Dave Coverdale is one....

One week he was selling trousers in a boutique, the next he was fronting up the world's loudest rock band in front of 300,000 people at Long Beach Arena.

Mind you, I think he must have had some 'surgery' as he was an ugly b*stard then...

Coverdale is God in my eyes.

This is my word and as such is incontestable.

Whitesnake's Greatest Hits was released in 1994 - I've had it for years now.

I think you're talking about "The Best Of Whitesnake" which has just been released. Looks like a decent compilation, but nothing that most fans won't already have.

I really like Whitesnake, but must admit that I was really disappointed when I saw them live at the Edinburgh Playhouse in the late 80's. Coverdale seemed so full of himself, and kept getting the crowd to sing half of the song - I paid to hear Coverdale sing!

cheers,
Andy

Moody & Marsden still tour from time to time as "Company of Snakes"
They do a lot of Festivals on the Continent & have a few CDs out of both old & new material.
Saw them at King Tuts a few years back & they were great.

Andy - your right - it is the new compilation, some of the tracks have been "digitally remastered" - whatever that means

Talking

I've got the 1994 Greatest Hits CD somewhere at home and every now and then have to hammer the Hi-fi with "Still of the Night"

Absolute class !!

Might have to venture out and grab a copy of the new "Best of" CD too.. Not a big fan of the re-vamped late-80's and early 90's Whitesnake stuff but loved the earlier stuff like 'Child of Babylon','Come and Get it' and the 'Saints and Sinners' album... great stuff...

Has to be said that Tommy Vance's "Rock On !" comment on the advert is full of cheese though !!

Which version of 'Still of the Night' though? I've got one with Moody/Marsden and one with Steve Vai on it (might even be Vai/Vandenberg).

Steve Vai = too many notes.

RE: 'Still of the night' - I would sincerely hope its the original version with John Sykes playing. His sound cant be replicated the way he does it.

Vai sounded way better with Dave Lee Roth. With the snake it just seemed like a hired hand - but we all know why David wanted him!!

Cool

Vai sounded way better with Dave Lee Roth.
Couldn't agree more. Some of his earlier work was better, if a bit weird...

Er....why did David want him?
Presumably to wind up Eddie Van Halen, by recruiting a guitarist that (some might say) could play faster...

"So we split a peanut butter sandwich and started a band..."
