Are all bosses arseholes?

After seeing a few other related threads, I just had to ask!
Mine is, and to make things worse hes FRENCH!
He bothers less about getting the work done than form filling and "you should do this, not that" type comments.
I really liked my job, but since he has realigned the section changed the roles of my staff I just aint happy any more, plus its over 2 years until he goes back to the land of stinky cheese and food that always seems like its stale.

What's worse I think are colleagues that deem themselves more knowledgable than you, but which don't actually do your job nor have anywhere near the same amount of experience yet advise you on what to do! Muppet. Yeah happened yesterday and I'm still reeling from the attitude.

In answer to the original question - YES!
The worst type of bosses are the techie people with no people or management skills that are promoted because they've "been there the longest" rather than because they show any sort of flair for management. I work in IT and I've had countless useless bosses who couldn't manage a p1ss-up in a brewery, yet still get given dozens of staff and multi-million pound budgets. If IT wasn't so well paid I'd have jacked it all in to be a street sweeper by now...

In my case definitely not!!....
Just given one of my team 2 free air tickets to Prague.
Probably helped that she's an extremely attractive young blonde though
Hugh
PS She's also had a freebie to Poland to visit some family too!!

Small time bosses are ****ers.
My girlfriend and I received a phone call last weeked as her Grandmother was critically ill in hospital and was not going to make it through the day - of course we rushed straight off to be with her.
Her company refused to give her compassionate leave and were expecting her to use her holiday up. Eventually they relented and have given her 1 day leave for the Funeral tomorrow, but unpaid for last week.
She's pretty pissed off - shes an account manager for an IT training company at Milton Park so if anyone wants MCSE/Apps training give her a call and cheer her up (e-mail me for phone number).
The opposite with my employer, they would have given me paid time off even if it was not my relation.
Cheers
Richard

Richard - she could be entitled to carers leave or domestic leave. Was there anyone else at the hospital? General rule is that you can have 3 days to care for a member of family but not more than 5 in two years. Also applies to looking after sick kids.
I hate it when people take time off unannounced, but I would like to think that if I needed to go in a hurry no-one would say anything or make me feel like thay where doing me a favour, so I extend the same courtesy to my staff.

Jerome > what is it about IT and techie bosses, mine is the same, complete numbnut and useless with people. I too used to enjoy my job but since people have left and not been replaced and we've gone years without pay rises despite taking on extra work, etc. it's all a bit pants. Pays the bills mind, and keep me in cars, so it's not all bad

I too am a "boss". Basically if my staff are honest and do a decent days work, I treat them fair. But if they don't want to work and are bums then I have no tolerence for them. All bosses are always arseholes, some bigger than others! One thing I do know, is that what ever we do, what ever we tolerate and how ever much we pay them, it's never enough.
Question for you -
Do you take your scoob to have a service and happily pay for it when the job is only half done.
If the answer is "no" then you too are an arsehole for upsetting that person that thinks he's done a fair job!
