Dax was the slug in side the host!
Dax had many hosts both male and female. Hence Sisko always calling Jadzia (host's name) Dax "Old Man".
Now that I had just shown how sad I am, I curse my local council for not letting me get cable, ITV Digital for going belly up and my building covenant stating I am not allowed a dish...

I dunno... <phew> not that tragic! 
Of course Enterprise is set 150 years before Star Trek so there is quite a lot of time to pass before DS9.

As an aside - have you noticed with enterprise that the way they are trying to pull in new punters is to feature the crew/guests wearing not much at all, its not very traditional ST..........

I can't remember excactly, but the Dax simbiont has had 6 - 8 hosts, including Jadzia.
Some of them are:
Joran - murder and nutcase in the extreme
Curzon - Sisko's buddy
Jadiza - lovely girly
Ezri - latest host to Dax
Must confess to having a big liking for DS9
