Question

My girlfriend has a power steering leak on her car and it is right next to the exhaust She can't get it fixed until next week but needs to use the car. It doesn't leak much but what does come out goes straight over the exhaust downpipe and gets burned off Is this safe?

Thanks
Paul

Some advice for you.....

The power steering fluid shouldn't be a problem with regards to it setting alight. Although there is still a risk of it happening.

I would be more concerned with the damage that is being caused to the power steering pump rather than the flammability side of things.

I would book it in to be sorted asap and use it minimally if you need to use it at all. I am not 100% on what would occur if the car was used a lot, nor am I 100% on the car being safe to use at all.

How long till you can get it looked at?

PS fluid will ignite VERY quickly on an exhaust manifold...

Sorry, I should have been clearer. Yes it does burn and a manifold is hot enough to ignite it.

Good job we stopped using it then because the leak is near the manifold straight onto the downpipe The car has been off the road nearly 3 weeks now
