Wink

At least the doc's can't get lost on the way THERE!! Also it was conveniant for me as well as I was picking someone up who lived nearby.

Also, check out www.dvla-som.com as this might help (sorry I don't know how to make it clickable!)

Okay, heres the situation...

My new MY03 WRX is sitting waiting for me once I have sold my Sport. My sport has a private plate on it that I eventually want to transfer on to my new car.

I know the procedure for doing this and have the forms to fill out, but I have to send the registration doc away with the form. It also says that it can take up to 4 weeks for me to get the paperwork back.

Now, if I am selling the car, noone in their right mind is going to pay for it without seeing/having the registration document!

I have contacted the DVLA to ask if the whole process could be completed at the office if I physically go in to my local office. They couldnt really answer my question.

What do I do? How do I deal with this situation? I really would like to keep my private plate.

i took the forms into my local dvla office and they did it there and then and gave me the new reg for my current car.....

if i remember rightly i had to wait for some paperwork in the post but i did have the 'normal' plate for the car i was selling!!!

would be worth going to your local office on monday and finding out.

I guess though, that you had to wait for a new registration document with the "original" reg.

wont the buyer be a little concerned there is no reg document, or if there is, it will be for another reg?

cheers for the advice.

Thumbs up

I'm the same as Asif.

Took the paperwork up to the DVLA office by hand on the Thursday, within ten days I'd received the re-stamped MOT's and both log books back. Obviously, two weekends got in the way, but I was really impressed how quick the 'turn around' was.

Good luck,

Ed

my situation was kind of different as i part ex'd my car at the stealership so i had my private put on retention.....all documents were just given to them to deal with

but the dvla will give you a temporary document for your sport with the 'normal' rego on it! if you explain it to any potential then they should understand.

do you think there is any benefit to actually visiting in person?

I understand if i put it in the post it will take a day or two to get there, but if you go in person will they "do it quicker"?

its just I have taken so much time off recently I really wont be able to get any more time until the week after next.

they do it all there and then for you, rather than a couple of days going via post a couple of days back.....

If I pop it in register post tommorrow, it should get there by Tuesday.

What I mean is, do you think that they put the postal applications to the bottom of the pile and deal with the people in the office first?

As I say, I cant get any time off until maybe next Friday or Monday

I think I have come up with a good in between.

I am going to hand deliver the doc's tonight. That way I know that Monday morning they will have the details and hopefully get on with processing it.

Does anyone know if the Birmingham DVLA office has a post box I can pop it in?
