What a bunch of muppets!!

Went in to shop off Oxford street to dat to buy a "X-light" stem and a pair of Easton Carbon bars (£200.00 all in ) Asked about difference between 2 models and was told they did not know any difference......... Asked about warantee for them told I would have to visit Waterloo branch to find out.... 5 members of staff. Not one new anything about product. Not one thought about phoning that branch and saving me the journey.
So off to Cyle surgery for proper service!!!!

God help the Brits when it comes to customer service............

"God help the Brits when it comes to customer service"

True, true. Then we moan like buggery when front line jobs - eg: call centres - go abroad.

Jack

I find that general service in shops is awfull. They dont care... Its like 1/2 the staff have been specialy educated for the job!!!

I am no longer standing for it.

Come the revolution!!

Luke,

I've always said it. Evans and places like them seem to be staffed by people who don't really know their product. This is especially true at weekends.

Go find yourself an independent bike shop and stick with them. I do and get the benefit of free coffee and discounts on everything.

Word of advice on carbon bars if you get them, don't overtighten them onto the stem. Cracking noises usually mean you have gone too far

Cheers

Ian

Luke, I've spent a lot of time in the US where bike shop staff want to work and want to help. Their passion has inspired me. Problem with this country is that somehow the service industry has become a 'have to do it' job. Great opportunity I say, I know where I'd rather spend my money.

Not sure about Evans but today I bought a mbk from a branch of Leisure Lakes and I was really impressed with their customer support. I went there four times before the purchase and asked a lot of questions and the sales staff really did know their stuff.

I was even advised to go for a hardtail (after explaining what sort of riding I'd be doing) and that meant I ended up spending quite a bit less than I originally thought I would. The salesman seemed more interested in getting the right bike for me rather than extracting maximum dosh from my wallet.

Andy,

You may well be right.

Every one I speak to on rides etc. says that every time they have dealt with Evans they have the same "not interested" attitude but Leisure Lakes seems to be more variable.

I've heard good things about a few Leisure Lakes stores and a few bad. Cheltenham branch has a good rep. for staff who know their stuff and want to help.

Can't beat my local bike shop though. Good prices, great service, free coffee and directly next to the car park I use to ride from.

Don't however, get me started on Halfords "Bike Hut" stores

Cheers

Ian

Luke I do sympathise, but to be quite honest what do you expect for £4.60/hr?
People who work in shops are doing it because it's the only job they can find at the time, they don't see it as a career like someone in healthcare, IT or finance might.
There are hardly any shops that send staff on training courses.
Staff turnover is also usually high, particularly down in the South.

You pay peanuts and the shop staff will swing from the trees and eat bananas.

Why buy from them in the first place? Plenty of specialist outfits around, and on the net, where your money would have been better spent.

Talking

I tend always to check things out on the net before I buy anything now.

Being a biker I guess you know about MtbReview

No excuse for someone in the shop not knowing though, does surprise me as most staff are hardcore mtb nutters round my way anyway and can talk the hind legs off a donkey on products
