Off to New York - what to buy?
#1
Bit of a silly topic really, but I'm off to New York the day after tomorrow and have a few hundred quid to spend on gadgets etc (it's my 21st tomorrow ).
What would you guys recommend I buy? - there's nothing that jumps to mind, but I have a horrible feeling that I'll come back from New York and then see something that I want that's quite a lot cheaper over there.
So, if you were in my position what would you be looking at? (got a good digital camera so no need for another!).
Andy.

Woodbury Commons is the name of the shopping place just outside NY - definately worth a visit - Buses do day return trip there from the main bus depot
Rest of NY is a bit of a rip off but you can get bargains if you search - but you have to look hard
You'll have a blast - must book another trip soon.

Just come back from NY a couple of weeks ago.
Went shopping to something called Tanger Outlets at the far end of Long Island. Timberland jackets for $79 (£45)
Nike running trainings for $49 which sell here for £130 !!
and bought another pair of regular Nike trainers for about $30
Could have spent a fortune there, but suitcase space was at a premium !!!
This is the one I went to

Its about an hour from the city, but I was staying on Long Island.

Stopped at the Millenium Broadway a couple of years ago. Absolutely stunning place
Had a room on something like the 62nd floor. Amazing views, vertigo was something else looking almost straight down.

Woodbury Common is well worth the trip. Last time I checked the bus fare had doubled, though. It was cheaper for (the three of) us to hire a car. Last trip I managed to pick up some Nikes for £40 (UK rrp = £125, when they eventually came out over here!)
Otherwise I'd blow the cash on food. They've got some outstanding restaurants over there. Do some homework before you go and you won't be dissappointed. Have fun.
Oh, and happy birthday!

Got back on Tuesday morning after doing $1000 in four days . Woodberry Common (which is in Flemington NJ)is good, if you go to the Bus Terminus you can get a bus that takes you to the front door. At the moment Foot Looker are doing a deal where if you buy one thing, a second item is half price. Therefore I was able to get a $120 pair of running shoes (that were already in the sale) for $30 (about 22 quid). I used the one in Times Square as it has a huge selection of stuff, whilst your there go into Virgils Texas BBQ which is just around the corner on E44 Street (I think). Try the 'Pig Out" and their (pints of) Bloody Mary
Canal Street Jeans was the best place to get (wait for it!) jeans. However, they closed down on the 19th January which was a pain. Still some reasonable shops in the area, but the really cheap places are getting fewer and fewer, apparently the whole industry has been hit really hard.
Few Scoobs floating around, down in the lower Eastside saw a cool yellow bug-eye, blacked out windows and a lurvly sounding exhaust. Check out the adverts for a fully loaded MY 2003 model for $22000, which by my reckoning is 18,000....hmmm rip off Briton, nahhh.
As for electrical stuff, there's a company called The Wiz, with a few stores around. Try the one on the South East corner of Union Square
Lastly, take loads of warm clothing and a hat as it was freezing during the day and even more at night.
Happy travelling,
Ed
