Lo All,

Got laid off, and trying to get a new job. Have had a few interviews though know the competition is strong so dont expect to get the first one I go for really.

Anyway - I cant beleive the lack of manners/courtesy being shown by firms / recruiters.

1st one - Interview with Ryan Air - few MONTHS later they get back to me and organise a 2nd interview in Ireland - fly me over for interview / test.....................silence - not a thing - to make it worse the recruitment company dealing with it cant help because the guy handling it has gone to Oz for a month?%^&*£"..............gee thanks. I dont ever expect to hear from either party - not gonna call them the b4stards, if Id got the job they would have called me.

2nd one - Just a week ago had an interview on Wed, was told it would be Fri/Mon that Id be told.............Monday 6.30pm...........nothing.........Thanks again - I dont mind being told no, I wont cry - I just want to know where I stand - This one I will be pursueing tomorrow.

I used to be a "recruitment consultant" and it sucked. Did it for a year and went home hating it every night. Very bad practices and an awful company to work for. I am not surprised you are peed off!

Understand where your coming from but i just had an positive experience with a recruitment company.

I applied for the job.. heard back from them less than a week later. Was given a date for a provisional interview and testing a few days later. Did the testing on Friday and got the results today. They confirmed i am through to the final interview stage and are to give me the date later this week.

Whole thing so far has taken less than 2 weeks since I appllied.

Being a contractor I have to rely on agencies for work, and have to admit that they need constant chasing and reminding.
I wish I could bill them for the time I've wasted on calls for feedback on applications etc but the crux of the matter nowadays is that for every position advertised, there's a hundred CV's received and employers can afford to be choosy now.
If you get an interview, you're lucky.
Chase for feedback the following day and ask for timescales when you're likely to hear a decision so you know how much time you have to wait.

AP, that's bad news, sorry to hear it.

You would have thought that a potential employer would be pleased to have an overqualified person for the job, rather than the opposite - but it doesn't seem to work that way.

Ho hum.

Can't sympathise enough, agencies are ar*es. But if you want to make sure you get through to enough, use www.jobspam.co.uk you only have to fill in the form once and it finds every job on certain recruitment sites and submits your cv to all that match. Only downsides are most jobs are IT based.

As a Manager I'm kinda busy. Yes I know I might of told you I'd get back to you by Fri, but I do have other things to do. I know the job is important to you and you are waiting for the promised call but other things do have to get done. You also don't know if another interview had to be rearranged??

Just a Managers point of View.

Saying that, if you're a No then I always let you know immediately without waiting until Friday!

Agents: lol! get a good one! Few and far between.

yep they all seem to fail the most basic of skills (recruiters):

Matching skills with candidates, i thought that was what it was all about!!!!

I wondered why I got calls about C++ jobs when it appears *nowhere* on my CV, bunch of To$$ers!

You make some valid points. However, if you said you would so something, do you think people should keep their word and do it?

If we used your logic, nobody would do anything for anyone else 'cos they are too bust/self-important.

Remember, it's nice to be nice.

Yep

It really sucks! agencies do not seem to give much of a toss, i get called by one about every six months to update my detials by a different person each time. More like ths system sucks and they loose your info, hight turn around of staff, no ownership of clients/accounts.
Wish i could get a job there, money for old rope.

Not that many agencies specialising in what i do so not like there is a lotta choice either.

Fortunately i freelance and have a few clients who 'travel' around with me so it is not life or death for me otherwise i would be pi$$ed off big time!

Ho-hum

ADP - I sympathise, I'm in the same boat and finding it frustrating. Bravo is right though, keeping on at them is the only way.

What amazes me is how stupid some agencies can be. I've just rung one agency up, about a vacancy advertised online, for Java developers - and I quote - "for a number of Java developers of differing standards".

So, having 5 years experience in total, 2 of which has involved Java/J2EE, I ring up expecting them to be interested. After asking me a number of questions (the answers to which were at the very top of my CV) - she asks how many years Java experience I have. "Two" say I. "Oh" she says, "they want at least 3 years".

Well, it would help if you mentioned that on the ****ing advert! If nothing else, NTL are going to like me this month.

Rant off.
