Where can I get an old army tank?
#1
My TA unit have a spot in which they want to place a piece of retired military hardware, i.e. a tank or piece of artillery. I have searched the web and have been unable to find anywhere that sells/auctions/donates old military hardware.
If anyone can point me in the direction of a homeless piece of military hardware, I'll be eternally grateful.
BTW, it needs to be ex-British Army - it's supposed to help recruit people into the TA, not the Republican Guard.

Erm...... you're in the TA but can't find where to get a de-commissioned tank from?
Surely your CO used to be a real soldier and has contacts with Army supply?

Jerome - it will only have a VERY small entry hole in it - large molten metal exit hole inside however!
Best way to stop a Tank is to kill the occupants - I have seen and drawn some nasty pieces of kit!!

Pete,
Indeed, the anti tank stuff around at the moment does concentrate on killing the crew. One type of round enters one side of the tank and exits the other side. The force of this round going through the tank sucks the entire crew through the 6" exit hole. Nasty, but effective. Nothing you didn't know already I'm sure.
Anyway, we digress. Shipping a knackered tank back from the Gulf isn't probably the cheapest way of going about this.
For the record, my unit have the means to transport anything except the heaviest MBT's within mainland UK.

fatherpierre,
Ironically, I'm in the Engineers also. If your partner's friend can help, he need never want for another map for the rest of his military caraeer.

As above and there are some Military Vehicle Preservation Societies. One's called IMPS and based in Kent - they have a huge show at Beltring every year. Also Invicta. Met a chap whose tank had broken down on the M25, parked it on the hard shoulder but still caused a huge tailback......

Well if its been knocked out by the yanks then i wouldnt bring it back to the uk as the d/u rounds are somewhat radioactive
I still prefer the copper cored rounds, just bounce around the inside of the tank and splatter the occupants!
