My dad wants to buy a camcorder, he dosen't know whether to go the digital or analogue route, he's either looking at near bottom of the range digital or a nearer top of the range analogue (he thinks!), but has no experience of either. Which route would he be better off taking?
I know nothing about them but know that some of you lot will Any help you can give us will be gratefully recieved

S/chick,
It ultimately depends on how much he wants to pay !!
Digital would be my first choice, picture quality is much better and can be manipulated a lot easier later.....They also tend to be on the smaller side.
Has he any other things that he specifically wants from the camera?? still pictures, size, make etc ?

Hi Gastro
He's looking to spend about £650. He knows that for that amount he would only get an 'entry level' digital but wondered whether it would be better than an analogue for the same amount.
Size - would prefer small
make - not fussed
still pictures - hadn't thought about that but likes the idea!

Just bought a Sony DV (can't remember the model no). It's a digital camcorder that uses Hi DV Tapes (you can also use analogue tapes) - Also comes with the Sony memory stick so you can take digi pics - lots of goodies - firewire connection to a computer etc - very pleased with it - not too big either...Came to around £600 so might be what you are looking for... Also has night vision for filming in the dark ...

Scrappy,
Can you let me know the model and where you got it from? I'm on the look out for a camcorder as well and was hoping to get digital for around the same price as yours.
Did you get any video edditing s/w with it? Any comments on it's performance?
cheers
