GPL - This week's hotlap track - Rouen
#1
Never got round to driving this track much for some reason... and it looks like a great track as well.
I should get some time later tonight to have a go, but don't expect much
Cheers

Do you guys ever get together for an on-line race or do we just hot lap? There are a couple of us Scooby owners who drive in the UKGPL league.
As for rules, is it any car you like ... or are there restrictions other than 2 wheels on the tarmac all the time. (Does this mean you can't hot lap at the Ring and Mosport )
I can do 1:58's at Rouen so I might have a go.
Cheers,
GPL Rank is -4 ish

Hi Kernel
Welcome mate!
Excellent point about the ring and mosport and the 2 wheels on the track thing! didn't think of that!
We've only been doing this for a week, so the rules are mostly common sense at the moment.
I think that an online race is a DAMN good idea.
Who else is up for it?
I would be up for it later if everyone else is?
Cheers

Cem, I would suggest a steering wheel, etc would probably make things easier, for us mere mortals without any cash though an old control pad does a job. The keyboard car of course be used, but I have not tried it.
On-line race is a bit of a problem for those of us who only have internet access from work, when / if I ever manage to find somewhere to live I would be up for it though.

Cem, I'd say a wheel or at least a decent analogue joystick is pretty much a necessity for this game. I tried it with keys when I first bought it and it is virtually impossible to turn any decent lap times...
I'd be up for some online racing, although this evening is out for me. How about tomorrow?

I thought I had seen the last of those Polos, but no, driving along at a reasonable pace during my first lap, through a gentle left hander, only to find some to55er had decided that a good place to put a hairpin, would be following a blind corner, hmmmm. Car goes flying into corner doing a speed somewhat too great for the brakes to cope with, up in the air I go, only to land on top of another half round mint, grrrr, back to the start for me.
In 3 hours I completed a total of 20 laps, with a best time of 2:19.95, I think I only had 2 spins in that lap
Lots more practice needed for me it appears.

Well, at least we're getting all the polo mints out of the way at the start!!
Nothing spectacular to report yet, still taking a break from Mexico. I'm doing some practice runs in the Brabham before moving up to the Lotus again.
If anyone's interested, I drive using a Thrustmaster/Guillemot Ferrari ForceFeedback steering wheel (with force feedback enabled). I shift using the stick (not the paddles) and I have the pedals set to split-axis so I can brake & accelerate at the same time.
I wouldn't even bother trying to use the keys, Papyrus games are undriveable without analogue input devices, only the F1GP/GP2/GP3 series can be driven with keys.
Joysticks are OK, but there's nothing like the realism of using a steering wheel, even if you record slower laptimes to begin with when you switch from a joystick.

Hi Chaps
Had a quick 1/2 hour and managed a 1:56.86 in the lotus.. I'll upload it if anyone's interested, but I think there will be at least a second to come off that as it was a very scrappy lap and I haven't started playing with set-ups too much yet.
Controls....
I could never be bothered to get a wheel so use a Microsoft force feedback stick with force feedback off (I find the lag incredibly off-putting)..
I then decided that I needed a wheel to enable left foot braking and bought the Logitech FF wheel, but just CAN'T get on with the peddles, so never really used it again.
However...
A mate has a wheel which has staggeringly good peddles.. it also has a real momo wheel and everying!! lol... but it costs a bleedin fortune.
Someone else has suggested keeping my logitech and getting some CH Flight Peddles as they are supposed to be very good.
I want to get something sorted in time for WSC to be honest so will probably try that.
Cheers

Hi kernel, thanks for the link, I'll take a look. Thanks for the fantasy land coment also ... but I'm a million miles off the hotlappers I dare say you really need to spend some time with the game to get to that level.
Come on DavidRB!! where are ya?
Cheers
Simon
PS. I'm still up for this race if anyone else is?
My ICQ is 98132099.. might be quicker.

Party PARTY,
Had a little practice round Rouen last night, using Wolfgang W's Lotus setup. Did a 1:56:53 a whole 1.8 secs better than my previous PB. Way-hay.
I have a replay and will find somewhere to put it tonight.
As for a race, I have ISDN and a computer I can use as a dedicated server. This will only support 5 or 6 racers. If someone has cable or ADSL I think they maybe able to support 10 or 12.
Oh, I've also been playing this b*****y game since the demo came out, i.e. for over 3 years ! Still hooked.
All the best, kernel

Hi Chaps
Well.. Kernel.. TOP lap. I only managed about another hour or so over the weekend, but it looks like my bravado (should be able to knock a second of that easy!!! ) was a little off! I couldn't even get into the 1:56's.
So, my best lap is still... 1:56.89
