Question

Can anyone recommend a service for transferring/exchanging 16000 euros into Sterling.

Quiet happy to get on a flight with it in cash but I want to get the best exchange rate possible.

Is there a specialist place which will change it at a favourable rate rather than taing it to Thomas Cook?

TIA.

John

I opened a citibank sterling current account and a Euro account to do the opposite (sterling->Euro). The rates are excellent, and are bi-directional too so you can move money from Sterling to Euro and back again and not lose anything. I think

scooby,

you could try xe.com, transferred 30k sterling into euros, was sweating abit waiting for it but xe are a huge currency exchange and the rate over the banks saved us about £400.

cheers

be careful about moving that amount of cash- anything above 7000€ must be declared to customs and you will need proof of where u obtained it! Best to transfer from Euro bank, if you have one, to UK bank- should cost about a fiver (thats what smile charge) plus they will rip u off on exchange rates.

They will do u on exchange wherever u put it in the UK. They use a tourist exch rate. Thats how they make their profit. Oh n plus a commission charge. So shop around for the best rate on the day. Amex is usually competitive. I would wait for a while though. The EURO is gaining strength all the time. Your EUROs will be worth more.
