Calling all Star Wars fans
Have you seen the trailers on Sky - it looks like they are going to show all four current films. At last a digital version for us to watch.
I wonder when they will show them?

Hope they are going to be in widescreen.
Just a shame the UK digital TV has to make do with analogue Dolby Pro Logic Sound while nearly everyone else in the world gets Dolby Digital 5.1.

Sky TV is to screen all four Star Wars movies, including the latest The Phantom Menace. Sky paid around £12m for the movies in one of BSkyB's largest payouts for a single lot of films, according to the Financial Times.
The films, including the UK TV premiere of The Phantom Menace, will be shown on four consecutive Saturdays starting on 17 March.
The new Sky Customer Magazine confirms that they will be shown in the following order, on both Sky Premier and Sky Premier Widescreen (i.e. NOT pay per view):
Saturday 17th March - Star Wars Episode IV - A New Hope (Special Edition)
Saturday 24th March - Star Wars Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back (Special Edition)
Saturday 31st March - Star Wars Episode VI - Return of the Jedi (Special Edition)
Saturday 7th April - Star Wars Episode I - The Phantom Menace

There was talk that Lucas wanted to wait and release all 6 movies on DVD together (i.e. in about 5-6 years time)
However, it now looks like "The Phantom Menace" will be released later this year. I think that you can already pre-order it from some Region 1 retailers.

Some retailers are taking orders for TPM but Lucas films will not commit to a release date. Its been on and off for months, Home Cinema Choice magazine say that George Lucas has no time to do the DVD mastering until after Episode 2 is released which means another year.
Only option for TPM with Dolby Digital is the Japanese NTSC laser disc and most suppliers are asking over £150 for it.
The more cynical of us would think that Lucas Film will release all six on video first, then DVD later on, then the special editions, etc. etc.

Well...what a treat seeing Star Wars in digital. I have lost count how many times I have seen this film and I have never seen it look so good. It is hard to imagine that Star Wars is over 20 years old.
I can't wait until next week for The Empire Strikes Back.
