It's probably very simple but I can't work it out, IT support can't help and niether can a group of Excel trainers!

The problem is that I need a calculation to count the number of zero's in column b but only if the zero's coincide with a letter in column a.

Pleeease help!!!!
You will be a true excel Guru if you can.

First Question - what version of Excel.

Second Question - Why can't you just count the letters in the first column?

Does it look anything like this?

Appologies if I've got the wrong end of the stick.

Chris.

add this in a new column

where column a is the letter column
b is the number column

=IF(A1="a",IF(B1=0,1,0),0)

then add the total of the new column
(it will put a 1 where both are met, otherwise a zero)

very inelligant formula I know, but aint got time to do anything better

=IF(ISTEXT(A1)=TRUE,IF(B1=0,1,0),0)
