Just found this at fu*kedcompany.com.
(P.S. - if you want to view this - replace the * with the appropriate letter)
After 2 failed IPOs, LetsBuyIt.com is shutting down for good... and filed chapter 11.
When: 1/2/2001
Company: LetsBuyIt.com
Severity: 100 - new hall of fame inductee!

I am so glad you posted this as I was about to buy a Sony Wega Trinitron KV32FX60 for £849 giving a huge saving over all other retailers.
Only trouble is I have to start looking again for another cheap tv, but I would rather do that than be out of pocket to the tune of £849.
So thanks once again for saving me from being ripped off

Ian, funnily enough that TV was tempting me too...
Does sound too good to be true in some ways, doesn't it. Still, perhaps they'll honour existing deals. I wouldn't bet my money on it though.
Whatever, use a credit card (NOT debit card) and you have some protection.

Hi Guys,
My mate bought a 32" Sony Wide boy off letsbuyit, he was cr@pping himself for the 2 weeks after the expected delivery date with no telly.
But to be fair he did get it ok (eventually!)
Good call Chiark to use a CC not debit card, you have very little protection with a debit card.
I did watch carefully their IPO attempts, I work for Actinic Software, an e-commerce company, we floated in May buy the skin of our teeth. The likes of BOO.com didn't help us much. All technology shares are very low at the moment, ( look at the big boys ) But they will improve. I have watched my shares go from 2.70 to 40p !!
Such is life.
Regards,
Andy P

Credit/Debit Cards. I agree that use of credit rather than debit card is safer but I am not sure that you get the same protection from many card companies if you use plastic on the net compared to use in a shop say? I think I saw that EGG were issuing a card which offered guaranteed protection for net problems. Anyone got the lowdown on all this? BTW I think a useful tip is to search and find a good net source for an item (TV for example) and then take print off to a local dealer and ask for a price match (make sure you have full delivered price etc). They will usually play ball, you get the goods quicker, from a local source if it breaks down and no sleepless nights. David.

I did actually buy one of the Sony TVs from letsbuyit.com. Made sure I used a credit card etc. It arrived on the Saturday morning following the last possible working day of the delivery period. Its an absolutley superb TV. They actually supply the european model KV32FX60(B), so the officail instruction book is in German/French/Spanish/Italian and you get a photocopied UK version. That is the only clue though that it is not a UK specific model. I wouldn't have hesitated to buy from them again if the price was right - just don't expect it to turn up early.
At the time I paid 890 when the best I could find mail order or Internet was 1075. For almost £200 I was happy to wait 4 weeks. Still V Happy with the Telly.

Boselectronics,
I phoned them and the guy's response was
"er er oh yea that offer is.... 3 or 4 weeks old, we er er, have to put the ads in the Mag's early and it has now finished but we have another tv for £2400"
My response
"But I got that price from your website one hour ago!"
sales guy says
"Oh did you! Sorry but we obviously have not updated our website"

I don't think that they can do this - you cannot offer goods that cannot be supplied. It is like putting a big sign in your shop window saying PCs for FIFTY QUID, but then selling a more expensive model 'cos there are non of the original available.
Phone 'em again and ask 'em if they would be willing to honour the published price, mentioning the Trading Standards people might be interested (as they appear to be a UK company).

Boomer, sorry to disapoint but they can.
An advertised price does NOT have to be honored by the seller, likewise, the seller is under no obligation to supply.
Sucks I know, but thats the way it is.
Trading standards will have no effect.

B*gger!
Its is a shame that they can't honour their mistake though. I bought an annual travel insurance policy from the Halifax last year - priced at summat like GBP60 on the web. I phone to buy it 'cos it was close to my departure date and they quoted around GBP90.
When i mentioned the web-price, they apologised, said that they would correct it straight away, but gave it to me for the lower price - jolly good show, and well done to the Halifax
Boselectronics have just lost a customer (they would probably still have made a profit at the original price). Also, a few others may now think twice about using them, so more lost business.

Well BOSelectronics are STILL advertising it (TX36PF10) on their web-site at GBP1399!!!
Seeing that they were notified of their "error" YESTERDAY, they have had ample time to correct the price, but have failed to do so.
Maybe a tip-off to trading standards wouldn't go amiss anyway?

Thanks for the support guys,
but I am going to give up looking on the web soon for any sort of Electrical products, as I have just lost faith in most company's web prices.

Expect to see far more web based companies going under especially if they are selling on price and selling IT products. Too many of these companies don't have a strong established business which they are adding internet functiinallity to, hence there start up and advertising costs are vast.
Action are in massive financial trouble (alledegdly) with debts reported to be in the millions and laying off 200 staff a few months ago. Another reseller with a name like a small flat fish is also rumours to be floundering ( oh thats quite a good pun) . Its the way of the world, people want the best price and many companies have little to sell on apart form price and can't survive !!
