Bloody Pug 206 Drivers....
#1
Boring fog light topic again, but I'm beginning to think that the Pug 206 brigade are taking over from the Saxo crew in the "annoyingly over-bright unnecessary use of front fog lights" game !!
I know its the time of year where there's the occasional patchy bit of fog about, but they just take the pi55 !!
IT'S NOT BIG AND ITS NOT CLEVER AND IT DOESN'T MAKE YOU A RALLY DRIVER JUST COS YOU HAVE FOG LIGHTS ON !!
Other offenders include - Fiat Puntos (why are they sooo bright ?)
- Citroen Saxos (same as ever)
- Fiat Seicentos (just as bad as Puntos)
- Pug 406's (its obviously a Pug thing !)
And why do so many people drive at night with only side-lights on but with the fogs on as well ?! Ever thought of turning your main headlamps on instead of the fogs ?
Is it just me who gets annoyed by this ?
Friday afternoon ramblings please.....

Chuffin annoying isn't it, all the Fiat range seem bad for it, soooo bright too
The main offenders here are Fiats, Laguna's and scenics

I get annoyed about it but have come to the conclusion from posts on here and other conversations that lots of people simply have no idea they are "fog" lights. They think they're just extra lights they can use when they like

There's a problem in that the PSA group of products (e.g. wife's old Saxo and her new 206CC) have the stalks arranged so that you can't turn on the rear fog light without turning on the front ones
In this weather, people may want the rear fog(s) on because of the spray kicked up (it's surprising how much it obscures normal tail lights).

They are fog lights not spray lights. If you put your fogs on in spray it makes it difficult for anyone to see past you. In fact, I'm sur the old highway code said it was illegal unless actually foggy, although the new one doesn't say this.
You MUST use headlights when visibility is seriously reduced, generally when you cannot see for more than 100 metres (328 feet). You may also use front or rear fog lights but you MUST switch them off when visibility improves

if you look at the majority of features in car magazines, they often show the cars with headlights and fogs on - i guess for creative reasons as it often makes for a more attractive shot. top gear magazine does it frequently, as does EVO.
net result: people copy what they see & think it's OK. it bugs me no end because, as has been mentioned, some are very small, high intensity units that dazzle (audi and vauxhall spring to mind).
so if i'm in a grotty mood (which is most of the time) and there's no-one ahead of me (a regular occurence in the boonies) then it's main beams on. the lamps on an H6 outback are reassuringly bright ...

Not forgetting they are not always foglights. Sometimes they are driving lights, which dazzle you no more than nomral headlights.
I get dazzled more than most due to the low seating position in my car, but fogs/driving lights never bother me.
Good thread about this over on scoobyplod bbs - http://scooby.burratha.com/viewtopic.php?t=31

On my Clio i can either have front fogs on or front and rear, not rear on their own. Never use them anyway as the Xenons are bright enough !!
Mind you i saw a silver 4 dr Scoob nr Bracknell yesterday with fogs on in clear visibility.

I don't get bothered by front foggies but don't use mines except in fog as its just an excuse for the police to pull me over.
However, it isn't just saxo and pug drivers!!!! I've seen scoobys, BMW's, corsas, fords, etc all with them on!

I see people of all ages/sex doing it..why?? Surely granny isn't trying to look sporty?? That and middle lane hogging make me an angry man !
Maybe they think they're saving on battery power!??? (using fogs instead of main lights)

I use my fogs on the narrow lanes around where I live, but thats so I can see the verge(and they make a big difference).I Don't have HID headlights either on my car. I Don't use them in town where there is streetlights though as its not neccessary and flattens the battery too quickly. BTW the way they are wired, it is not always obvious that they are on with the sidelights, as the dash light is not in the direct field of vision.
Drive a Xantia BTW and need good lights around whereI live
