Question

No, not Jamie Whitfield

I gave blood at work the other day and was discussing it with one of my colleagues who is a Jehovah's Witness.
I was shocked to discover that if his wife/mother/child was dying and in need of an emergency blood transfusion/organ donation he would refuse to let them use his blood/kidney whatever, and they would refuse to accept it.

WTF!!! Can someone please explain this to me? Apparently this is standard 'JW' practise, I can't believe it. I'm not really big on religion << looks up to check for thunderbolt >>, but how can someone expect to go to heaven/afterlife if they can let a loved one die like this.

What is their reasoning behind this? Any JW's on here as I am genuinely interested.

J
PS I just 'left it' with the guy at work as he is a nice bloke and I didn't want to get into an argument about it!

Cool

Oh good. A JW thread on Scoobynet.

<rubs hands together>
<opens popcorn>
<sits back to watch the fun>

The reason, my dear boy, that JWs take this stance is because they are nutters. Pure and simple.

Having said that, in 99% of cases the patient is in fact treated when the people see reason.

If they don't want treatment, kick them out of the hospital and give it to somebody who appreciates the help.

Idiotic religious nutters - im in a country full of them!!
this will probably get your thread locked... but

I have been advised that due to strict religious law, its not advisable to help people requiring medical assistance!! Apparently lets say i came across someone trapped in a car and i tried to help but they died. Then i am made responsible for that persons death and have to make all arrangements etc and may have to pay blood money for the death!!

Personally i think its terrible but thats there religion

Years ago, I worked with an idiot who allowed his 3yr old daughter to die because he refused to allow a blood transfusion on the poor girl.

Fooking w@nker.

I love these open minded views!

There are apparantly other options instead of having a blood tranfusion that they would rather do.

I am led to believe it comes from a part of the bible that says
Thou shall not take another mans blood
Now I read that as you should not kill etc but then I can read the bible on my own and come to my own conclusions. JW's always read the bible under supervision of elders to help them "understand" their own special apadtation of the bible.

Being one of Jehovah's witnesses, with firm religious beliefs, I have decided to obey the bible command "Keep abstaining from blood". Although I would refuse the transfusion of blood or primary components, I would consent the administration of non-blood volume expanders such as saline, dextran, Haemaccel, hetastarch and Ringer's solution. I'm 24 and have been brought up in a family of Jehovah's witnesses. I have got to know thousands of witnesses in this time and have yet to hear of one dying from not taking blood. More and more surgeons are happy to do bloodless surgery, and find that it is often safer than using blood!
However, I lurk on scoobynet, not to preach, but to have fun, so look out for me on other threads. Infact, I think a few of you know me, but don't even know I'm a witness!!! LOL!

Hi Jack, thanks for replying .

But what about in an emergency where people can require gallons of blood?
I take it the same applies to organ donation - so would you accept an organ from say an animal e.g Pig's heart.

Wink

I hope Jack will still be reading.

Jack - Do you believe in the evolution of man?

Why do the JW "elders" keep getting the date wrong when they think the world will end?

I guess one myth is blown, that I did not think you were encoraged to use the internet.

I had a friend who was a JW when I was younger. My folks took us out and bought her a meal. When she got home she was told that she couldn't play with me anymore because we bought her a gift?! WTF?!?!

Oh and I don't believe in god or any other religious thing. I believe that we are all part of an alien experiment (seriously!!) and to this end I have been told by many JW's that me and my family will never be saved as I have evil in my blood!!! That's exactly what I wanted to hear!

Thumbs up

Both my old bosses were JW's.

Isn't it true that JW's believe there are only about 70,000 places in heaven or something? But there are millions of JW's around the world.

So who gets in?

PS MarkO - quality mate LOL

So you couldn't give her any gifts? Sounds like an idea friend.

Try telling them you swallow - they'll probably think you're the antichrist.

Bloody Hell!!

When they knock at my door, i always tell them to make it quick, as i got an appointment to give blood...
that gets rid of them sharpish!!! - weirdos!!

Life can be about chooses for some of us, some are not so lucky of course. I can see how this would infuriate people, but I think its their choose to be JW's and perhaps I should look at what I'm doing in life instead of looking at others and judging.

LOL @ all your comments!!! I've also been told, that we don't cut our hair (or our grass!!??), that we don't drink tea or coffee, that we don't give gifts, that we're not allowed to use the internet, that we can't watch tv, that we don't eat meat etc.

It make me laugh, that everytime I tell someone that I'm one of Jehovah's witnesses they reply "you can't possibly be! You're so normal!!!" Usually followed by "what a waste!" LOL!
