Just back from Florida.
American cars suck.
Anyone agree?

Jason... I had a hired mustang for a week a few years ago and hated it. Was big comfy and easy to drive but i certainly wouldn't class it as a sports car. Afraid i have to agree with Bob.

I took this pic of it next to a 240sx cuz i had a 200sx at the time. Just wanted to compare size. The Mustang is a HUGE.

Jason, I guess saying that i hated it is a bit harsh. Didn't meet with my personal tastes is probably more accurate.

I wouldn't have one myself but if i moved back to the US again i'd probably get one (or something similar) for the girlfriend. They cost pennies to buy new and like i said, it's easy to drive and at just over a dollar a gallon, cheap to run too.

Here's a proper Mustang:

It's my weekend baby: 1969 Ford Mustang Mach1. 351cu (that's about 6 litres!) of V8 fun!

Thanks guys!

Errr - got no idea how much a full tank costs I never let it get down very low (the gauge isn't that reliable!)

Miles to the gallon? Gallons to the mile more like! It's never been into double figures even when just cruising...

Soundwise it puts my (now ex) STI 5 with a Blitz system to shame!

Try getting a copy of Street Machine & or Custom Car magazines, they have forsale sections & adverts from dealers in them.

If you are going to get one get it from a dry state, I had an old Chevy for parts for my escort, it was as rotten as a pear that had been rotting for a very long time, but the Big Block V8 & running gear were fine.

I got it last year from http://www.pomonaimports.com/ (ignore the showroom - it's well out of date) in Haddenham/Thame. The guy there is called David Newell - he's brilliant!

He only imports 65-69 Mustangs and can do whatever you want, be it a Eleanor replica with NOS from Gone in 60 seconds to a 67 Bullet car replica to a Grabber Orange Mach 1 like mine! My car came from Nevada and is rust free .

I'll post some pics and a soundbyte (if I can!) at the weekend in the gallery for those that are interested...

Cool

Nice wheels mate!!!

Was talking with a chap recently who has a '59 Cadillac Coupe deVille, two door hardtop. He reckons to get 15mpg out of it, IIRC its a 389 cui motor with a twin-choke carb.

15mpg! Sounds a bit optimistic!

I'm still learning about all the stuff under the bonnet but among other things apparently i've got a 750 double-pumper drag racing carb (probably doesn't help )

Thumbs up

DaveU -- any chance of under-the-bonnet V8 **** pics? Sounds nice

No, 750 double-pumpers will NOT help economy at all . Twin accelerator pumps squirting neat Super Unleaded into the manifold ...

"are you sure"

"absolutely"

"Don't you mean 3.5 sir?

"No"

"It seems very large"
