Two things sum it up;
1)40 Applications for every vacancy (cannot be badly paid if 40 ppl want every single fireman's job)
2)They were offered 18% and now 11%, they want 40% - why? Either cause their union ****ed up their wage demands over 10 years or because the leader is trying to take on the Govt ala Arthur Scargill.
Oh and btw should they get this pay rise or close to it, nurses, teachers and ambulance men will rightly be asking for more also, prepare to see 2% on interest rates as a result of inflation due to wage increases, your mortgages wont be looking so hot then, or our debt which is now the highest in Europe.
The 1st person to die as a result of this strike will entirely lie at the feet of those firemen on strike, they are comparitively paid well, they are being greedy, the mortality rate shows their job is not that dangerous with modern equipment, the applications shows their jobs are in demand, hence by supply and demand they are not as badly off as they claim.
