Cool

How to use either a JCB or prefferably a Hi-Mac

Seriously

I'm currently un-employed and whilst not exactly kicking my heels, am trying to learn and have some new experiences.

So therefore, if anyone in the South-East (well Cambridge +150 miles) can help, then please let me know.

Also brick-laying

Any advice/pointers appreciated.

Did my Dad's farm driveway with a Catipiller digger thing and it is pretty easy to learn to use as long as you have some noddle..

Was funny watching everyone struggle after I had mastered it and made it look easy..

Hire one for the weekend and have a play.

You have levers that move the bucket, and arm, etc... pull a lever and see what happens.. you soon get the hang of it.

Cool

Well, I've got 1/4 mile of road to dig out & a building site, so a bit of experience would come in handy first

Free labourer for someone?

Seriously hire one and start digging it is easy..

We did a 1/2mile farm track.. dug it up and then used it to load shingle into a dumper truck to then distribute in the driveway etc..

Plus if you go to a decent hire firm the guy deliverying it should show you the controls..

Somewhere there is the JCB racing place that I got invited to by a mate but couldn't make it.. you could try searching the net for that?

LOL

My driveway is in Ireland

& the only thing I can do around here is knock down my neighbour's stable - don't tempt me!

I see... sorry.. I was thinking just go for it?!

You went for the house in Ireland then.. good on you..

You could take a JCB to the supermarket carpark for some practice... just let me know which one so I can avoid the area..

If you are in Kent or Durham there are "theme parks" called Diggerland (www.diggerland.com)

I took the kids there last summer. Basically there are small errr diggers which you learn on then move up to medium sized ones and then onto big ones (!). These are all full sized proper working models and they are top fun, as Dad had to help his kids reach the controls.

They are amazing places as you spend about 15-20 minutes on each one just moving earth. As has been posted they are very intuitive and easy to get on with.

Recommended.

Rob.

As far as bricklaying is concerned, your local technical college probably runs evening classes. That's how I got enough to do my own dwarf wall for the conservatory.(including 135 degree joins!!)
