My first job required a IIi or higher to get into an interview. Despite my CV specifically mentioning my Desmond, it wasn't spotted and I got an interview and the job.
About a year later I was in the pub with my boss, and talking about degrees, when he heard me mention my qualification. "You can't have got a IIii", he said "you must have got a IIi or higher to get an interview".

I had to produce all of my certificates, and even after all that the job wasnt worth it!!. Thought I was getting involved with some big kick **** company!, how wrong I was!!
I interview about 3-4 people a month and I ask them if they can produce proof of MCSE's CCNA's etc etc, I never follow it up but if someone is telling fibs and they are not to hot they often slip up and start with some excuse - very amusing and gets rid of the crap alot of the time.
If your asked, say YES!!!, very unlikely thatthey will follow it up.

NatWest asked what I got but never to prove it. All other jobs never even asked what I got. Could put BSc (Hons) Origami on my CV and would never had to prove otherwise.

MarkO -- when interviewed for the job I'm in now (10.5 years ago and counting ...), I simply put on my CV "BSc Chemistry" as I only got a pass degree.
However, it seemed that less was more. I was told by my now partner that "we only really consider candidates with a first". I said: "Mmmmm"
A couple of years later I owned up ... with no ill effects.

lost my degree cert, so I have a grotty piece of A5 paper confirming my educational attainment, basically cos I couldn't be bothered to pay £30 for a duplicate certificate.
Never been asked (other than first job from university) for this. Nobody's ever asked to see O or A levels. Rarely have my references been followed up on.

What qualifications
Seriously, I ask in interviews about qualifications, one highly qualified chap produced his degree, professional qualifications, paper he had written on the subject (about 500 pages), several articles he had published in computing... He was excellent at the job, which I won't detail, but lets say it was totally unglamorous and only for 3 months. Seemed a lot of trouble to go to!
In general I ask about qualifications but don't follow up...

One friend once did two weeks driving a truck at motorway roadworks... At interview he was asked to show his HGV license when he started, this was never followed up, even though it was blatently obvious he had never driven such a vehicle before! Still he got away with it
