this is an interesting one, i was gonna get TIVO but ended up with Sky+ (which is superb)

you try finding ANY big name stores selling TIVO, comet, dixons etc are all stopping their orders and going with Sky (who sell TIVO in the UK oddly)

i got a feeling it wasnt gonna be around for ever, bit of an ITV digital!

I understand you can use it without any subscription as a fairly standard recorder. Does anyone know how it works without the Tivo subs?

the subs allow you to download the prog info so it knows whats on when- without that it will just record when told with no idea whats on. (useless)

the other downside to tivo V sky+ is that you only have one input so you have to atch what your recording.

my video doesn't know what it is recording, and at £99 this is cheaper than most tape based systems.

it is, but a dishwasher with no soap in it prob cleans better than washing your dishes in the river, doesnt mean you dont go the extra mile and wack in some soap!

Comet were selling TiVos for GBP150 today!

...but it is a shame that Powerhouse aren't still doing their GBP100 deal

On the Tivo Vs Sky + side, Sky is too expensive and they have had enough money out of me anyway.

£99 Vs £300 i think is a no brainer, so tivo here i come (when it arrives).

On the dolby digital dront, it is right that sky + does record that, and tivo does'nt . But i can deal with that.

Cheers

I am a bit gutted by the Unbeatable price. I thought £150 from Comet was good two weeks ago and went for it, bugger!

sky+ does stuff tivo cant, read the above.

to me sky + was the winner. in a years time you try and find a tivo in the shops! imo they are not gonna last.

brooks, wos going to get the comet deal last week aswell.

Great link joni , Good comparison, I think tivo sounds more customisable (bigger hard drives / network card etc....)

Sti: tivo will b around, maybe not to the masses , but sky will be around aswell, but @ that price i think with not alot of subscribers.

TIVO will definitely be around in the future - do u know how big they are in the USA ? Huge. Over there they are installed in the Satellite/cable receivers of certain companies.

yes but over here it is almost sky or nothing, sky+ is a better bit of kit...if they were the same price this debate wouldnt exist.

the tivo is being given away cause no one wants it.. if your that into your telly get sky+.

Cool

Best buy of all is www.showshifter.com

Gets free access to programming info, and can do a lot more than just record or pause live TV broadcasts.

However, you will need a PC with a TV card fitted to record TV programs.
