My wife is, pay a yearly sum, get the magasine, she hasn't written any letters in a while though.

More to it than just telling Mugabe to shove off, diplomacy etc. They (AI) publish plenty of guides on how to help with any paticular cause, correctly and through the right channels etc.

We aware that membership doesn't always go un-noticed with certain other people/organisations, and that it may serve you to in fact not be a member. Somehow I doubt that's a problem for 99% of the population though.

Thumbs down

Can't be doing with them myself, everytime they opened their gobs about some form of injustice in Saudi Arabia, the Saudi's would cut off the internet and e-mail to my Dad amoungst many others. More bother than they are worth in my opinion, charities should care more about directly helping those they are supposed to support, than on political campaigns that is endemic to those like Amnesty, the NSPCC, and the RSPCA. Anybody who can spend more on administration and political campaigning than on direct support to those they represent isn't worthy of support in my book.

And for those of you who are wondering who I support, the answer is the Salvation Army, I'm not sure about the God bothering aspects, but that aside they do an excellent job.

A word of caution(and an amusing story looking back) my gullable wife joined AI with the idea of writing a letter to some condemned man in the carribean who decided to knock off his uncle to inherit some land, but he was caught and sentenced to death.
my wife started the correspondance and recieved a letter back and the guy sounded as nice as ninepence, the second letter recieved requested we send money to him for **** and to help him clear his name,(which we obviously didnt do) the third letter was just pure ****,the things he was going to do to my wife etc/etc.....if he got out and came to visit

we were then hopeing that the authorities would just hurry up and hang the ******!!!!!

we had to write a polite letter to Ammnesty enclosing the letters and asking them to take us off their mailing list!

regards
dave
