Full of dole scroungers, consequently cheap compared to other places. It's less popular than Brighton etc as the A21 is much criticised, despite the no. of bypasses built along it in the last 10 years. Full of huge Victorian houses probably in dodgy condition.

Hastings = Toilet
A shortish drive away finds you in Rye. LOVELY
The kind of place you'd expect to see that geezer off "Those magnificent men in their flying machines" driving around in his Morgan shoulting "Shower" at the pedestrians - Terry Thomas !
Bit more expensive than Hastings though
Expensive as Smoked Salmon and Champagne.
Not as cheap as pomme frites

The London Local Authorities decant every antisocial DSS scrounging scumbag down there who is homeless in London because they 've got themselves evicted from everywhere in the capital. It's a dumping ground basically. Full of drugs and crime.
They should nuke the place and save a lot of taxpayers money.

Hello
A few years ago (might be the same now), Hastings had the dubious pleasure of having the highest crime rate in South-East England.
I wont even park my car there (Supra!), let alone live there...
Steve.

Go there quite a lot on the motorbike for a blast down the A21, also have a m8 who lives there. Nearly moved there a couple of years ago from Tunbridge Wells due to the difference in property prices. For the price of a 2 up 2 down in Tunbridge Wells in a rough area with no garage I could have bought a 4 bedroom new detached house with garage and gardens. Thank god I didn't! Hastings itself is a **** hole but there are some nice parts on the outskirts such as towards Battle. Unfortunately as soon as you move towards battle the prices soar, but then u get what u pay for as they saying goes!

I know that only too well, but having bought my first house in the 'demilatirzed zone' as my friends called it in Tunbridge Wells, its still not a nice place. I have lived in South London and preferred that when I was at Uni than living in the rough part of Tunbridge Wells. However under no circumstances would I buy a house in the roughest parts of Hastings, not unless I had a sherman tank for a car and a castle for the house!

This weblink has a very useful description of hastings:
http://www.seethru.co.uk/zine/south_coast/southcoast.htm
"..Crime central. If there are five stabbings in one day along the southeast coast, four of them will be in Hastings. It's constantly featured on BBC's Crimewatch, and has the lowest house prices in the entire southeast.
Hastings somehow feels cut off from the rest of the country, partly because it is. Drugs are freely available here, and to be honest, required.
