Any of you healthy sporty types out there no how i can sort my Achilies .
I had to stop playing squash as a boy some 15yrs ago coz of it,and know after doing circuits, once a week, for a couple of months it's started aching like mad.
In the mornings i can hardly walk down the stairs and it's been like this for 3 weeks now without any improvement.
It doesn't seem to be getting better coz i'm on my feet all day at work, up and down stairs etc. which is when it hurts the most.
Should i just battle through it and go back to doing circuits?
come on guys give us a fix.
cheers
Davy

My honest suggestion would be go and see a physiopherapist, ok it may cost 25 quid an hour or whatever but they will give you exercises to build up the muscles around it
If its an old injury it may not have healed right so doing circuit training may not be the best thing for it

cheers Tony.
Here's me just trying to get a bit fitter and healthier, but didn't realise it would hurt so much
I've been massaging it and circulating it but to no avail
looks like i should just pay the money and get an experts opinion.

Davy,
I've just started to suffer from the same thing. I've ran the past 5 London Marathons, and have just taken football back up to start off my training for next year's race.
My achilles started playing up around March this year and caused me grief for a while so I went and saw a orthotic (not sure of exact spelling, and I know Orthotic doesn't sound right), and he recommended inserting orthotics in my shoe (blocks, something to do with the high or low arches of your feet). He wanted a fair bit of money for the inserts, but he did say they lasted 10 or so years.
I didn't have the cash so I ran on regardless and they seemed to sort themselves out (new supportive and cushioned trainers). But since running again and turning on my ankles playing football, I cannot walk down stairs either. I played on Sunday until lunchtime, and I can't walk properly downstairs now. Over 3.5 days later.
I'm intending on visiting a physio soon to see what can be done?
Hope your's turn out ok, drop me a mail if want and we can swap medical notes!
Cheers

I've been told about getting inserts for all your foot wear that is perfectly moulded to your foot shape so you have the correct posture . Is this the same thing?
I think this can be done by the physio?

Davy,
I use orthotics all the time (unless I'm not wearing shoes!!) I got them about 2 years ago as I was having real trouble with my lower back. This was caused by the fact that my feet "fell in" (pronation is the techie term!) and the orthotics put me back straight. They won't be done by a physio but I was having physio for the back and the physio recommended that I see a podiatrist. I saw a specialist in Manchester called Steve Lyons - he's pretty good as he deals with Man United, Man City etc and was out in Japan with England for the World Cup. Luckily my health insurance paid for mine - they are carbon fibre and cost £200 which covered all the diagnosis, making the things and checking they were ok.
It might be a sensible investment to go see a physio and take it from there.

I tore both ligaments in my knees whilst refereeing a kids match in the wet.
Took a while to recover and now I suffer a lot when it is cold weather. I use knee supports whenever I exercise to help lessen any strain I am putting on them.
When they do feel sore, I rest with cold packs and painkillers.

I did mine skiing, went to a few specialists, the 2 things that fixed it for me was:
1) cutting the high back off all my sports shoes.
2) stretching the achilles every morning and evening.
