Just a thought.
If through a simple error when your number plates are made up 2 digits become transposed on the rear number plate, would this result in you being undetectable?
E.g Front = True Reg Number = AA01ABC
Rear = 'error' = AA01ACB
If spotted you just say 'Oh I never noticed!

I am surpized the fines for dodgy plates has not gone right up..
I thought similar about it falling off... or just never washing the plate.... might be a bit suspisious with a spotless car and dirty numberplate though..
Might get messy if you get pulled for no reason other than when they follow you and radio a check on your reg and it doesn't match.. they pull you suspecting it is a stolen car on fake plates and it gets impounded... unlikely but could happen..

My rear number plate fell off while driving once (a sticky one, was so hot, the sticky stuff melted )
Plod pulled me over, and were determined to nick me for the fact, until i showed them said sticky mess number plate in the passenger seat and explained what happened.
IMHO, had i not had the plate and demonstrated by showing them how it had come off, and showing them the sticky mess on the back of the place, they would have nicked me for any other excuse.

This won't work. My mate got new plates made up for his car and the rear one was made up incorrectly by mistake. He didn't notice though and drove around for months. He got done by a Gatso and sure enough after a bit of searching a very pi55ed off copper tracked him down and he got his points and a lecture! You'd be better to make up a completely bollocks plate for the front and the rear and drive as fast as you like

What about those plates you can get that don't show up when flashed etc (can't remember the name of them) they are advertised as illegal if you did have them how would you ever get caught!?

My ex-father in law's car was hit up the back by a lorry.. After it was repaired it never looked quite right but I couldn't put my finger on it.. About 12 months later the penny dropped the plate on the rear was a transposed version of the front..

I'm curious the cops were bothered to follow this one up, but I guess false plates are a big issue for them.
What's the offence that they will get you with?
Saxo - Good point about having to worry all the time.
Jason. I DO drive within speed limits (most of the time) - I'm not planning to do this BTW, I just somthing that's been bugging me.

I was the "victim" of this sometime ago and had to prove it was not me. It was the same type of vehicle (my Trouper) which made it worse.
As for transposing the numbers, I hope you realise you can get a £25 fine for this... if you are caught

The devil in me has always thought it would be good fun to set off some cameras at high speed, with false plates fitted.
Is it me, or do speed cameras bring out the rebelous dark side of everyone?
I've never had the ********* to do it though.

Pete,
Yes I agree with you... I ride my bike through some forward facing cameras everyweek and therefore cannot get caught as no plate on the front of a bike but still cannot bring myself to speed through them waving...
I have set a camera off in my youth at a speed well over twice the limit... and that was with my correct plates on... that was not a nice two week waiting on that... the flashes lit up the inside of the car.... didn't feel rebelious as I was cacking myself too much... nothing ever came through about it... and not I am not given anymore details than that.
I remember the thread about your Trooper, glad you managed to sort it out..

If you are going to do the dodgy plate & fast past gatso routine can you make sure your car & plates match that of the local cheif cunstuble should worth a giggle in the national newspapers, Cheif Cunstuble fred smith of essex police was caught speeded past 17 gatso on the same night speeds ranging from 95mph to 115mph, see him wiggle out of that one.

I to have been the victim of a cloned number plate. Something I was not pleased with I was looking at a £60 fine.
Finally cleared up when the police came to visit me and then reliased that vehicle in question, a Land Cruiser, and my Yamaha Thundercat (with the V5 documents) weren't them same.
It was not a funny couple of weeks though with several phone calls backwards and forewards.
