Some people are just sick... Just had this sent to me by mail. Am kind of hoping it's a hoax....

Apparently Derby Cats Protection League just had all of their cat
food supplies stolen. They're talking about cats dying if they can't do something about this.

Aside from wanting to kick the living **** out of the person/s
responsible, I thought it might be a good idea to mention this in case anyone feels like making a donation to ensure the kitties can havesomething to eat. Contact details are:

Why would anyone want to steal catfood? Unless its for blackmail purposes.

Unhappy

Where did you hear about the theift as there is nothing on there website?

I am a bit skint this week but could probably run to a couple of cans... if like you say it is true..

As I am in Derby, it is not too much hassle to do my bit.

I was mailed it this morning form a friend. Not sure where she'd got it from....to be honest she may have replied, but I haven't checked my mail since this morning.

I'll try to find out where she heard this.

Why not put them out of their misery with a shotgun. It's much more humane that keeping them in those awful conditions and letting them starve to death.

Because some people actually have a heart, GTR_Man and are willing to put themselves out for others, including animals.

Other people are just mindless morons who only care about themselves.

Most people have more respect for animals than they do for their fellow man. What a sad world we live in when we go out of our way to help a starving cat and then subsequently turn a blind eye to the plight of starving people in Africa.

Nevertheless you all know what I've said is closer to the truth than you're willing to admit.

Reply back from my friend :

It was on both BBC and ITV Teletext and a friend who lives in the area mentioned it to me independently. To be honest I haven't called them directly, mostly because I reckoned they'd be busy enough as it is, but I have no reason to disbelieve three effectively independent reports. There has been a spate of bizarre thefts from businesses and private houses in the area over the past several weeks (which is why my friend heard about it - some of the thefts have been only a few doors from her house so she's keeping current with it).

As for their website, they're not stunningly good at keeping it
updated. I checked it immediately on hearing about this (and again
today) and found it hadn't been updated since April 12th. I've emailed them to query this.

GTR_Man - am a great believer in helping others, but animals don't have a voice...

We've been sending aid to Africa for over 15 years with Comic Relief and other methods and they are still in problems. I feel for them, I really do, but there are so many issues right here in this country that I think it's hypocritical to try to tell others how to live when we ourselves have not got it right.

Schools, hospitals and the homeless are all suffering right here and what do we do? Ship vast quantities of help and aid abroad.

Dont really like gtr mans way of putting it initially but i have to agree with his argument my money goes to starving people first every time.
the obsession with animal welfare in this country is obscene at times (or should i say fluffy and cute animals only).
I bet you all love youre lamb chops for tea dont you ??????.

Update from Derby CPL :

>Many thanks for all your kind words and donations after our recent troubles
>but it's true, every cloud has a silver lining
>
>Most of our volunteers were reduced to tears last night when we went
>to collect the food donations that had been brought into our shop.
>After our radio appeal we thought we may get a fair sized response but
>we got a mountain. In one day alone we must have over 300 tins, boxes
>of food, pouches, even the odd treat tin of pilchards and tuna were
>donated! I couldn't believe the amount of people who brought in
>multi packs of 6,12 and 24 tins!
>
>We had old people come in who could just afford to bring a single tin
>and children buying food with their 'sweet money'.
>
>A great story came from the University - one of the departments heard
>our plea, had a whip round and went to the local Sainsbury's to buy
>£25 of cat food - they told the manager why they were buying it (must
>have been a shock, student + £25 not equaling cider!) so he said
>whatever they bought us he would match!
>
>Donations are still flooding in and I feel a lot easier now knowing
>the little monsters have got good grub!
>
>Cor, isn't it nice when something so good comes out of the bad??
>
>I'm in the middle of organizing a special Tombola to celebrate the 75th
>anniversary of the Cats Protection and had planned for all the prizes to be
>days/nights out in Derby as I wanted the prizes to a way of thanking the
>people of Derby for their support. So far had some lovely donations -
>theatre tickets, cinema tickets and I am more determined than ever to get
>some good prizes as the people of Derby have really shown what good stuff
>they are made of this week!
>
>I'll keep you posted of our Tombola - will probably be held at the Derby
>shop one Saturday at the end of August/start of September, as I know we have
>a few Derby people on the ng - hope you'll come and take part!
