Can you get Optimax in France? Is it cheaper than in the UK?
Can anyone remember the French name for Super Unleaded?

you can get 98 ron super anywhere!

even if you have no grasp of French you will not have a problem. I think its labled Super sans plomb 98.

ID is correct, they have 98 RON fuel in france, well, on the main autoroutes they do. If you're off the main roads then you might only find 95, so if worried take some octance booster with you.

One other thing worthy of note is that some of the tolls also have petrol pumps, which some of us found very handy when very, very low on juice.

About 1.10 Euro per litre, so its cheaper.

I've found 98ron even in tiny supermarkets well off the beaten track, in fact it's a rarity for it NOT to be sold. Was paying 1.02 euros per litre last month. That WAS abt 65p, but recent fall in £ vs Euro will make it abt 68-70p-still cheaper than here mate.

I have use of a home in a tiny village in Britanny and all the petrol outlets sell it round there, god knows why, I have never seen a fast car yet.
