Check with your bank, if a payment is due on a weekend some pay it on the previous Friday, some on the Monday

Sigh...how can it be MY fault when DD's scheduled to go out on the 1st of the month have all been taken on the 29th of the preceding month?
Of course I'd check before sending money anywhere.
But as I said, my wife gets paid on the 1st. The bank really had NO RIGHT to presume and send out DD's three days early. ONE day late would have been better.

1) Tomorrow is the 1st (a Sunday) - how is your wife being paid - cash in hand/cheque??
2) You get paid on the 4th - what happens when the 4th falls on a weekend??
Have you read your Banks terms and conditions lately ??

1.Yes, she's been paid.
2. No idea. I THINK it comes in next week. CERTAINLY NOT early.
No...why? Surely if a DD is set up for 01/xx/20xx it should NOT go out on 29/xx-1/20xx???? It should go a day LATE if anything. The recipients have had TWO payments in one month at this rate.

How would you feel if you were due to be paid on a Friday but they decided to pay you on a Monday instead? As by your logic “ it should be a day late if anything”.
No firm is going to take a payment late so every time your payment date falls on a weekend the DD’s will go out early.
All my payments are set for 1st of month and when you look at a statement sometimes you think bloody hell I spent a lot of money untill you realise there was two sets of payments taken that month.

A little research - claim the payments back from your bank

Not harsh at all. If I had no bad luck I'd have none at all.
I once went thirteen WEEKS, ie: 26 draws in the lottery and NOT ONE of my numbers ever came up. Chances are almost as great as winning
And here we are looking at enjoying our retirement together and what happens? wife struck down by some really rare problem and is paralysed from the waist down...with all the associated problems.
Bitter? Who me?

Direct debits are initiated by the company you are paying funds to.Your Bank has instruction from you to pay or unpay if you have countermanded payment when DD hits your account. You need to contact business you are paying as they put debit through early.
A standing order however is paid by Bank on date you instructed them to or next working day so they are responsible for s/o being sent on due date.
