A van driven into a crowd of tourists by all accounts
I can't see any way of stopping this type of attack
Probably in retaliation for Spain cracking down on immigration (boats crossing the med)

A worrying trend is a lot of the Spanish towns have pedestrianised the promenade road/area, but they still allow vehicles access to allow access to car parks, hotel drop offs and of course deliveries for shops and restaurants.
Most Spanish pedestrians don't waddle down service roads. British (and French) tourists do.
Usually by design, the foot path is separated by bollards and palm trees or concrete benches. But in some towns there are gaps big enough to get a car onto the footpath. They need to block those gaps ASAP.

Cambrils is a lovely quiet resort, I am surprised it was targeted. There are much denser popular resorts not far away.
My thoughts go out to the innocent victims of all this.

Or more female armed Police everywhere - that would probably be the more PC option. Whether it would be a genuine deterrent though, it's hard to say. Might just mean they'd be more likely to go with suicide belts rather than knife rampages.

It would be interesting to have the opportunity to look back and see how history views this period in Europe. I fear it will not make for pleasant reading.
Chief Rabbi in Barcelona suggesting Jews should think about moving out of Europe

Pretty frightening to read also that the terrorists who carried out the attack on Las Ramblas were originally planning on using 3 vans filled with explosives. One by Sangrada Familia and presumably the others on Las Ramblas and another busy area. Would have been a huge loss of life.

'I tell my congregants: Don't think we're here for good, and I encourage them to buy property in Israel'
'This place is lost. Don't repeat the mistake of Algerian Jews, of Venezuelan Jews. Better (get out) early than late. Europe is lost.'

On the plus side, the younger and less savvy they are, the more likely it is their attempts at bomb-making will end in dismal failure, as they did here.

Well we can be all dramatic if you like. Maybe we should just start a suicide cult, after all the world is in a pretty bad way generally so let's just abandon the whole thing. Does that make you feel more comfortable?

Most likely that the Gaurdia are armed to teath and were put on alert after the first attack. They are fit, well trained and don't hesitate. Unlike our lot who are overweight, aren't armed, and the ones that are, are scared of being charged for murder should they use their firearm.

There's been another 35 'nothing to do with Islam', Islamic terrorist attacks since Barcelona (as of today..there will be a few more tomorrow, and the day after, and the after that)..
Here's the running total for those keeping score:

Ask yourself why this isn't on the news every day?? Islamophobia? Fear of reprisal? Maybe it's just not news...
