Question Deadly Weapon?

This is meant as a serious, rather than flippant, quesion.

With the recent stories about increases in laser attacks on aircraft (and the publicity will just make it worse) would such a cheap and easy method be something that the long suffering Syrians could use against continuous bombardment on their towns by Assad and his Russian chums. I am not a military chap but assume the bombers are fairly slow and low flying which might make them easy targets. One would imagine that those using the lasers could quickly vanish before they are tracked down.

Use of lasers may be against the Geneva Convention (?) but that doesn't seem to count for much in Syria.

Any thoughts?

I can see where you are coming from, and I would have thought that anything they could do to disrupt the pilots could be a benefit. Not sure if they would have the eye protection, shields that would cancel it out, that are not availble to domestic pilots.

Think it would be a brave man to try it first, as think that most missiles are laser guided

For a military jet, not an issue. Already been thought of and countermeasures in place. For civilian aircraft, different matter. You could probably apply some special coating to the cockpit window to reduce the problem significantly, maybe in conjunction with pilot eyewear. Legally, increase penalties massively. I suspect what will happen is that lasers will be limited a bit like air guns, to a certain energy level

Thy have been banned form music events for years, I remember way back being at V98 in Chelmsford (was there for the prodigy, who wouldn't be) and the guy from Placebo said stop the laser or I am walking off, at which point about another ten bounced off his forehead.

He finished his set.

Hold on, having a flash back, must be the cider.

It was the bloke from Super Furry Animals that did that, the guy from Placebo, was singing 'Jesus loves me' when someone threw a glass (plastic) of beer at him, which hit his mic/face, and he said 'Jesus doesn't love you mother ******;

Classic, good times.

Blowing some 15 year old laser wielder to pieces might be considered an over reaction. Might discourage the others though!
